Got this sweet little public spot, never seen a trace of anyone else hunting there. One season it was good, loaded with smartweed and mallards. This was like 3 years ago. The next season when I scout it, cuckle burs took over. And every year after that, dang cuckle burs. I like this spot so much I would spray and try and kill it. And real close to it smartweed everywhere.

To late to kill them this year they're already dead or dying.
Cuckle burrs are easily killed with most any weed or grass killer after they come up but it takes years to get rid of them all. Some type of premerge in the spring will help a lot.

Last time I talked to the du biologist, he said cockle burrs are duck food, especially for mallards. So it is not a coincidence that the mallards are in there. I'm not kidding either.

Flooded cuckle burs is what it is. Ever since the cuckle burs took over, I have not seen any mallards in there. I know nothing I can do this season, but for next season, if there is anything I can do, minimal work, I might do it. Spraying would not be too bad.

Glyphosate - too late this year. Lack of water / moist soil results in them

Cotton hoe, get them starting in the spring when the new plants start popping up. I grew up chopping them, one of the lease provisions with the guy that leases the grass from us is to keep the cockleburs out of the pasture.
