We've killed 11 now since Oct 10th, on 2700 acres, mainly in three locations.
We;re seeing fewer deer and fewer fawns than ever. Yes I am sure the drought has had a huge impact, but we're coming off that a little and this year's fawn crop shouldn't have been affected much.
Do you shoot coyotes from the deer stand or while at the ranch during deer season? Three of our ten hunters are actively shooting them, the others are not.
Just curious if anyone else has this issue, especially out west like Foard/Hardeman County area.

If there was side by side a WT Buck bigger than anything I had ever seen and a coyote. I would shoot the coyote.

When you're sitting there and you let a coyote go by, plan on sitting there in 5-6 years thinking 'I wonder where that mature buck is that I should be seeing'. Fawn deer is a coyote's favorite food; if you're not shooting coyotes you're doing it wrong.

Shoot the coyotes. How often do you shoot something, hunt from the very same stand, and shoot another deer that evening. Shooting a coyote will not hurt your deer hunting 99 times out of 100.

If I am resented a good shot, I will every time, if not, I try to see where they go and set a trap later.

Lucky for us, we don't have many, but i consider them a target of opportunity just like hogs, i shoot everyone one i see, deer season or not.

I have a buddy that killed 5 Coyotes opening afternoon of gun season (in 1 hunt) on a lease that normally produces some pretty good bucks, not one person has killed a deer off that lease this year. Is it the Coyotes?

I have never let a coyote 'walk' if they were in range. I did pass on one some years ago at 500 yards. Back then I didn't think I could make the shot. These days I'd have a go at him and expect to hit him. After years of blasting every one I see, I have the best deer herd I've seen in 11 years of owning the place.

I do if I have the chance. The landowner just put a new fence up (field wire), and I'm about to get really busy with snares. coyotes are like pigs... impossible to kill out, but without a doubt they have an effect on fawn survival.

Where I hunt we hear them howling at night but havent seen one yet. Most recently we found a 2.5 year old 6 point eaten by coyotes. Its a shame.

All of our neighbors have livsestock and we are all in agreement to shoot on sight reguardless of property lines. If I see one, it's dead.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Last week a guy on our place took a shot at a coyote from the deer stand, 10 minutes later he dropped an 11 pointer.

Shoot yotes every chance I get. One shot here or there is not going to adversely affect your deer hunt and dead yotes can improve the hunting in the future.

At our lease, we shoot them on sight whether it's deer season or not. And we have plenty of them ( southwest of Throckmorton).

had 5 of them charge the deer at my feeder 2 weeks ago, 7mm mag turned the leader inside out. 5 hours later shot a great deer at same feeder. i have killed close to a dozen since feb at the new lease, gonna get down and dirty on them in the morning and not going to let up. we have seen less then 4 fawns on 3600, and all the does were good and fat in late may.

I will almost always shoot them. But there are a few days during the rut that I simply will not shoot at anything but the buck I am after.

Shot 2 opening morning and 1 that evening this year on a gut pile from a pig I had shot earlier. I have only had a few on camera in 2012 and 2013 but this year they have been very frequent on cams and actually had a pack run by me in bow season chasing something through the brush.
