Ah, the holidays are upon us. Anyone else hunting tomorrow mainly to stay out of harm's way and away from the pot banging and the cussing?? I've completed most of my assigned duties and we're in agreement that this is a good arrangement.
I may even kill something. Gonna start baiting the hog trap in the afternoon; leaving the gate wired open for a week.
Thursday the mob shows up to raid my bar and eat my wife's cooking. It's usually a grueling marathon, but becoming more fun since the kids are having kids.
Go Cowboys. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I love to sit in the country but nothing beats time with my family. The deer are safe for a few short days then it's on again! Baker

Gotta wait until Black Friday to start my thanksgiving hunting. Girls are going to Disney, and boys are going hunting.

CR, I hunted turkey day for years when younger, really enjoyed it ( and usually had decent luck) I'm tagged out here, but may sit anyway. Working nights, then trying to function in the daytime, means I always have chores that could be done.

Sadly enough for me, This week into the weekend will be the last hunt on the family ranch. We sold the ranch and the new owner takes possession first week of December. Had lots of good times out there. hope the new owner can enjoy it as much as we did.

My daughters will be here for Thanksgiving at home. Then the whole crew heads to my brothers ranch where our closest neighbor is 2 miles away. Sure beats the the Black Friday crowds. He wants to decrease the population on his exotics, should be a blast.

9 gobblers just came in and the .17 is sitting in the house. This close to Thanksgiving I couldn't resist. 1 gobbler down with the .280. Have I no shame? Picked it up and put it under the blind, pretty sure the breast is intact. Tried to line up 2 more, but missed. Axis doe comin'in, gotta go.

I did the same last week on a hen w/ my 30.06. After seeing turkeys for two weeks straight and getting grief from the wife that I kept passing on them, I had to man up and get it done. A head shot at 100yds is harder than I remember. Dusted up some feathers but no vitals. She walked off with her middle feather in the air. Family time for me til Friday, then it's back to the lease for WT and Mulies. Not looking forward to the warm weather though.

The axis was a little on the small side, so I passed. Must have been the Spirit of Thanksgivings Past that guided my bullet... "Ain't never dun at 'fore." (But it was a heckuva lot closer than 100yds.) Now if I could do that every time, I'll admit that that big "POOF" of feathers is purty darn cool and could get addicting. Don't get that effect with the purists' scatter gun.

I thought she was deader than a door nail. Flipped her in the air like some trapeze artist at the circus. Feathers went everywhere. Oh well, she'll live to tell the tale. Good shootin CR. All of that hard work this fall is paying off. I'll keep you posted on the mulie.
