Killed this buck Friday morning . Hunted the evening before and checked cams. Found that one of my best hit listers was already busted up. Was a little dejected... Just before shooting light, I heard this guy rubbing trees in the draw I was hunting. Waited until it got lighter out and waited for a pause in his rubbing. Once he paused, I let out one long grunt followed by a couple short grunts. He immediately grunted back at me and began thrashing the tree with a little more vigor. Finally located him with my binos and could tell by his body that he was a mature deer. I kept quiet, as I know he heard my calls. He came in grunting almost every other step of the way. Walked right to my tree and made a scrape 10 feet from me. As he worked the licking branch, it felt like he was staring through my soul! But, he still had no idea I was there. As he turned broadside to scrape the ground, I began to slowly draw, as I felt he was going to walk out behind me where I really didn't have a clear shot. He busted me at 3/4 draw! Looked up and immediately bolted. Managed to get him to stop after only a couple bounds. He turned broadside and I found a 12" square hole on the limbs and let it fly. Double lunges him and he ran about 40 yards before piling up out of view. Checked this camera and found that we had one picture of him, taken that morning before I killed him. Never seen him before. He was full of milo and the nearest milo field is about 4 miles from where he was killed. He's what I call a bonus buck. Gotta love hunting the rut! There are bigger bucks up there, but he was mature and put on a great show for a memorable harvest.

Great buck!!! We have seen them travel over 10 miles during the rut up there when they are jumping from field to field and creek to creek. Congrats on connecting

Thanks guys. Txshntr, you are right. Those bucks cover a large amount of territory in a short time. Watched one from the truck with his nose on the ground one day cover about 2 miles in 10 minutes, but there is lots of open territory in Unit 18.
