This isn't my biggest, but I'm damn sure proud of him. We purchased our place in far East Bexar County about 5 1/2 years ago. We only have about 32.5 acres but we're bordered on two sides by a 250 acre place and a 100acre place on the north. The west side is a FM rd with another 100+ acre place just across it. We set up a feeder within 2 months of purchasing the place and started seeing deer right away. I did not set up a deer stand until last year when my son asked me to after getting a couple of very nice bucks on camera, including this one I shot. I figured last year this deer to be 4.5, and maybe 5.5 and our plan was to let him walk one more year. He had a big kicker on this left G2 last year and the year before that he had a muley fork on it. The two reasons I'm so proud of this particular buck is that these deer become very, very smart once they get past 3.5. In fact, I only had 2 daytime pics of him all of last year. This year I had one picture in late september pf him about midnight way behind the feeder, and couldn't make out if he was still an 8, or maybe had G4s this year. With the cooler weather last Tuesday (fresh front blowing) I took off work a little early and climbed in the stand about 5. The feeder goes off at 5:30 and when it did this night I had not seen a single deer which was unusual as I'd been seen several 1.5-3.5 year old bucks and a few does every evening either at the feeder or in the 3 acres of oats I'd planted. At 5:45 I looked onto the other side of our center dividing fence and saw a buck loping my way from the neighbors to the north. I put the binocs on it and low and behold it was him. I grabbed my son's new 308 and got it out the window and on him. When he got to the divider fence he stopped....right behind a dang mesquite tree. He stood there for 3-4 minutes and then jumped to the side my stand was on. He knew better than to be in the open country that early and was making tracks for the brush. I bellowed at him twice and he never broke stride. I knew he was not going to stop so I put it on him and let a 150 grain game king fly. He rolled up at the crack of the rifle and didn't move. Old One-Eyed Jack was done. I hunted many hours the first couple weekends and MANY hours last season and never laid eyes on him. I knew I got very lucky to be in the stand when he finally made a mistake being out to early and looking for a lady. Although we have quite a few deer and a ton of turkeys, this is the first game animal we've taken off our place. We could certainly kill many more but I just do not feel it is right to do this on such a small tract of land. The 250 and two 100 acre places are not hunted so it is a pretty nice sanctuary for the animals. It was a pretty cool deal writing my last name on the tag in the spot for where it was killed....that was a first for me. His lack of mass and brow tine length killed the score as he was just short of 130" but he sure is pretty with his widest point 22" and all four tines up top over 9" with one over 10". I am going to shoulder mount this deer as he has a very special place on our wall being a 'home grown' buck. He was 6.5 and field dressed 129 pounds after 6 days in the cooler.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

What a 'HOSS'. I remember a few years ago when y'all bought that place. You were very excited about it but weren't sure about the deer population, as I recall. I guess this erases any doubts on that matter. Congratulations, what a trophy.
