I would pass and wait on an older buck
You will never kill a big old buck if you shoot them when they are young
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I agree with 3.5 but if he makes you happy shoot. I personally wouldn't unless we were trying to cull some 8 pointers. just depends on the rules and management program in place on your property. Best wishes!

Here is the back story. We passed on this deer last year and another that turned out to be 6 years old and taken by another hunter. I think I talked too much about letting them grow, and my son hesitated on the 6 year old bruiser. This buck looked 3.5 last year so I was confident he would go 4.5 YO this year. And he did! My son took him down after some encouragement on my part and he was very happy. He goes to college next year and will have a longer drive, so I wanted to make sure he was successful this year. There's no telling how much he will be coming with me next year, depending upon girls, Aggies football, etc. We happen to have an official B&C scorer in camp and he was right at 125 and change gross with only 1/2" deductions. He wanted to take it to Ray's for processing in his own truck so we switched!
