I was looking around at options for a future exotic hunt. Outside of Texas a lot of operations emphasize WT & Elk and then have a few exotics. I was surprised to find out that a 200+ in WT usually costs more then a 400 inch Elk. I know that demand has a lot to do with pricing but the difference is remarkable. I'm not really trophy driven and happily shoot culls, as long as I have a good hunt, but I definitely would do an Elk hunt vs WT at the same price. I think that when you consider, trophy, meat, and price, compared to a regular Elk hunt, a HF Elk hunt tends to be a pretty good value. I also found out that the Jicarilla Apache hunt is a high fence hunt.

99% of hunters that shoot a 400" elk wont want another, everyone wants atleast one 200" whitetail a d then more.

You're right on elk being a bargain in some areas. But go kill a trophy on the Rez in NM. You're gonna drop more than you could kill a 200" WT for.
All depends on your personal preference. And that's good.

The Rez is 17000 acres but it's a high fence there are several other similar size operations out west. Most places are 1000 to 2000 acre operations. You can get 390 to 410 elk for around $10K. Two of the places have Manitoba Elk, with live weights of 1000 to 1200 lbs at an approximate boneless meat yield of 30%, that's a lot of venison.
