Found this in the wall of a house that I remodeled in Burton, OH a few years ago. It's a metal "tag" like a cars lisence plate that is about 3.5" X 4.5" in size. The house was built in 1860! After moving into our new house over the past few weeks I was going thru some "old" boxes from previous moves and "re-found" this lost treasure...thought I would share.

It most likely was for display on the hunters back. Growing up in Pennsylvania we had to display our hunting license (about that same size) in the middle of our back in a plastic sleeve that had a big pin attached that you stuck through your orange coat or snow mobile suit.

That would be a cool find, I have seen tags on folks "backs" in the NE, but would never thought they'd go to the expense of metal, even back then.

I like the fact that it pre-dates WW-II.....found several other neat items in the walls/attic/basement of that old house....

Growing up in ny, I remember my dad always having his hunting license on his back. Was always a paper in a plastice holder. I'm not sure of the logic of it all.

That would be excellent decor in a man cave. I bet an Ohio hunter/collector would love to have something like that, good stuff.
I have my grandpa's Arkansas hunting licenses from back in the 40's and 50's, they are just paper about the size of credit card.

Awesome find! A few years back living in Ohio, we still had to wear a tag on the back of our coat. My jacket I still wear has a sleeve to to insert a plastic tag.
