I've been there and its a sick feeling; here's some things I have learned from my situation.

1. You have to be proactive the police are so swamped with stuff they don't have many resources for locating your stuff.

2. Call the local pawn shops and give them the descriptions and serial numbers, trust me you will have better luck if the pawn shops catch them coming through the door BEFORE they actually pay money for them and you have to go to property hearings.

3. If your a NRA Member you get $1,000 worth of gun insurance with the membership; I filled out the paper work and had a check for $1,000 in 10days; which doesn't make you whole on the situation.....but its better than nothing!

I had 7 guns stolen and got 4 back....sorry to tell you this but handguns are rarely recovered unless they are caught during a traffic stop or some P.O.S. has it on their person when they get arrested; because handguns are usually traded for drugs.

Man that stinks. As stated above, the pawn shops are your best bet. But in my experience there are some crooks and thieves that are dense enough to post some of those on Gun Trader. So watch that site as well. Hope you can recover some if not all of your stuff.

Serial Numbers Might Help.

Sucks man. No serial # no dice ;(

It's someone you know or a friend of a friend that knows you have a collection and just waited and timed till when you were gone..

Make sure you give the police the serial numbers. Even though they won't be proactive in looking for it if one ever is used in a crime or confiscated they will contact you and give it back after they are done with it for evidence in court or what not. My brother-in-law lost his and two years later got three or four of them back. It's a longshot but worth the effort.

I am sorry to hear about that. About a year ago, I had someone break into my truck a steal a rifle and swarovski binoculars, among other things. The gun had been in my tuck for 1 hour (loaded up to leave at 6am as a storm moved through, decided to wait it out before hitting the road and at 7am when I went to leave after it passed, window was busted and my stuff was gone).

What I learned from going through the process is:
You must have serial numbers for every gun - my suggestion is to take pictures of them (as well as anything else of real value like scopes, binoculars, game camera's, ect)and email them to yourself - where you can access them from anywhere and they are stored for life.
Keep original boxes if possible, they take up space but its worth it because the insurance adjusters aren't your friend in this process
Check your max allowed for gun reimbursement on your insurance policy, see what the max is and get extra if you need/can

The last thing I would say is make sure your prepared ahead of time, because you never think it will be you until its too late. I learned the hard way.

I'm sure you already did but don't forget to report any NFA items to your local ATF branch.

Sorry to hear this. I live in Fort Worth also, my truck was broken in too not too long ago.

Luckily I didn't have any guns in there, but this place it getting over run by crooks. I am pretty tired of it and I will absolutely keep a look out. post serial numbers if you get a chance.
