Texas Fish and Game magazine Dec. 2008 Article.
"There are a couple of problems associated with this whole phenomenon and one of them is there is no such thing as a "black panther."
"All of the black cats you see on television in circuses and zoos are either black leopards or jaguars. Both species frequently throw melanistic or black offspring. Of the two species, jaguars are native to Texas while leopards are cats of the Old World."

just read the article the other day. Very interesting.

Don't say no Panthers in USA..... We had one in Hugo, MN. The DNR tried to get it. That was some funny stuff. That cat out smart them and the sherrifs department. Finally they issued a reward for it dead or alive. It was never shot. Many pics and siteings. I saw it one time way out in the middle of a foeld before people started to chase after it. You can do a search and find pics. So, if we had them in MN anything is possible.

Other long-tailed cats can be black too. It doesn't have to be a panther. Cougars, jaguarundis, even bobcats can be all black.

Do a little research, panthers are not indigenous to the US.

if there is a pic that shows up of a true big black cat it will be a jaguar. At one time jaguars were common it Texas.

There is proof of melanistic jaguar, bobcats, and leopards. There are no authenticated cases of truly melanistic cougars.

Im still going to stick with the "no black panthers in Texas...period" ...Until they find one, photo & video it & show there is concrete proof that it wasnt a pet or brought up from south american or from a zoo/sanctuary, etc...then I MIGHT believe it.

Beer of the world beware. I'll kill an 18 pack just to watch it die.
