I will be resuming reloading after a 10 year hiatus. Wonder if somebody out there might have some suggestions where I should start powder wise and amount with the Barnes Tipped 80 Gr. TTSX BT.
This is my first experience with the Barnes bullet and might also experiment with Nosler partition or accubond 100 grain. Any ideas on either of these would also be welcomed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

At the velocity it is going to push that, I would not recommend the TTSX and I love them. I built a 257 WBY for a friend of mine on here and developed loads for it using 100gr TTSX. Opening weekend last year He shot a 10 point at about 200 yards, and had to shoot him twice. Very minimal damaged on both shots, exits looked like hardly any expansion. I have shot several animals with the TTSX with great results, but from wound investigations they opened completely. At very high velocity it looks like they hardly expand at all. I would probably rather use a TSX in a 240 Wby.

The 80gr ttsx is nasty medicine in my 257wby and my old 243.

You won't have minimal damage I assure you...


For some reason 100gr tsx in my 257wby was lack luster. ...but 80gr watch out

In my .240 Weatherby I have had the best accuracy with IMR 4350 and a Hornady 100 gr. flat base bullet. The bullet performs well and the load that I was shooting would give >.500" groups. (if I could still see well enough to do my part)

I have run out of the lot of powder that I have used for the last few years, and am currently in the process of working up a new load. I may try some of the TSX 80 and 100 gr. bullets (if I can find them) just to see how the work in my rifle.

Edit: I just checked Hornady's website and discovered that they no longer make my favorite bullet!! So I will be starting fron scratch in my load development!

I had the same problem with the 100 gr TTSX's in my 25-06 - penciling through deer. I'm now using 110 gr Nosler Accubonds. Might give those a try.

There are probably others, but these are from 3 different loading books out there.

Most of the problems stems with BT's loaded at high velocities with close shots. Try loading mid range with the BT's and you will see much better expansion at close shots as in around 100-150 yrds. We have experimented with the Hornady sst's and have had very lackluster results in close in shots...300 yrd shots where the velocities were slowing the damage was extensive. We started loading mid range and stopped having penetration issues. also accuracy improved quite a bit loading down
