Dipping is the easiest route, but something like cerakote is a whole lot tougher.

I would have someone cerakoate it, dipping is the weakest finish known to man. Krylon last longer than dipping.

I think some charge 150ish, but itll be there from now on. I took a dipped gun to kansas to pheasant hunt, looked terrible after just one trip.

Can you get the "real" camo patterns with cerakote such as Max 4?

Dipping can be a very durable finish. It all depends on the company applying the pattern and what process they have in place to promote adhesion. The topcoat can also come into play and unfortunately lots of shops use the cheapest materials they can find. Find a company that has been in business several years that offers a warranty on their coatings and you will be just fine with a dipped finish. We offer cerakote and dipping and I would only steer away from dipping, on parts that get extremely hot. With cerakote you are limited to solid colors or hand applied patterns which can get expensive. Most of the companies putting out quality coatings will be working with local gun shops, they should be able to give you some leads on who does the best work in your area. Hope this helps

Not really. Cerakote is painted on, so the only way you are going to get any pattern is by what the applicator can do. I supposed if you could find a true artist they might be able to airbrush with Cerakote something like that, but in my estimate it would not be cheap.

As far as cerakote, I have a rifle 2-toned in FDE and Patriot brown, the finish is very durable. Only place I have any issue is on the muzzle break where I happened to scrape in on a boulder outside of El Paso.
