Every now and then, it's nice to take a break from the synthetics and handle a nice piece of wood.
98 Mauser custom in 358 Winchester, Timney trigger, 3-position safety. Inletted sling swivels, steel grip cap.

Beautiful looking rig you got there. Nothing like fancy grade walnut.

Here's mine, it's a 35 Whelen.

I own one synthetic, the rest are wood and I much prefer walnut to plastic

Beautiful pics up on this thread. I am a wood guy also but do not have anything as nice as whats pictured above. People always say they are worried about the wood getting dinged up, but I love the nicks and scratches wood gets. Wood just has so much more character and if I wear out a stock it just gives me an excuse to buy a nicer one.

Always been a wood guy. I do have a couple of plastic-stocked rifles though frown

I'm in the process of building pretty much the same rifle/caliber combo: Interarms Mk X action in 358 Win. Pac-Nor is putting the tube on it. Timney trigger set at 2 lbs and an older Leica 1.75-6 German Post scope waiting for it. All I need is to convince Karnis to do the stock work! flehan

Here's a few of mine. And yes, they DO go out in the field and get character marks!

Both of these are 25-06. The Blond (I have a weakness for blonds) is factory w/ a Timney, the brunette (yes, I have a weakness for them as well) has a Timney and a Douglas barrel. Both sub-moa laugh

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

.45-70 match rifle I made a few months back. Stock is a piece of perfectly quarter-sawn black walnut...and hopefully the last piece of black walnut I do.

.500NE ive been making. Stocked it a few few weeks ago, its farther along now. $3k quarter-sawn Turkish blank, no finish on it in this pic.

New butt stock I made on an old Remington 1894. Wood is a lower cost piece of quarter-sawn Turkish.

Very nice work, TDK. My stock-maker swears he will never do black walnut again.
