as of today 30 miles north of you the rut still hasent kikked off,,,when it does wait one week and then rattle away...[best guess]

I hunt Webb County near Laredo, and most years our rut is going full strength right around Christmas. However, to answer your question, we have successfully rattled pre-rut, rut, and even post rut. Really you need to watch the deer and see if they are acting aggressive at all. If so, go for it. It really cant hurt anything to give it a try no matter what.
