So I plan on buying my first semi-auto .22 to upgrade from the single shot my dad gave me and I've been looking at different ones and it has come down to the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 795. I've read great reviews on both of them and right now the Marlin is $100 cheaper at Cabelas than the Ruger. But I like the woodstock on the Ruger. I plan on using it for both plinking and taking small game. So what do ya'll think?

I prefer the Marlin Model 60. It is tube fed, so you have high capacity and nothing is sticking out the bottom of the rifle.

Honestly, they are both good rifles well suited to your needs.

Also, if the Marlin 795 is 100$ cheaper, you could use the savings to buy a really nice wood stock from Boyds.

I bought a 10/22 about two weeks ago and was all happy about it till i got home and really looked at and saw that the trigger and guard are now plastic so i will be upgrading that ASAP but other wise they are sill go even though i have not shot it yet that makes three guns i have bought within the last two months that i have not shot yet .

The 10/22 gets my vote. One of the most fun guns I have ever owned. Accurate, fast handling and a world of aftermarket products to get it the way you or your family wants it.

I'd personally go 10/22 but I'm partial to them

10/22! Had one since I'm 9-10. Fixin to hit the big 40. Still love it. Plenty of after market parts to trick it out. I do like the Marlin, but love my 10/22. I would suggest get an older one that doesn't have any of the plastic parts.

BTW, they've had polymer trigger groups and barrel bands since 2007.

Think my Academy has the 10/22 for 199 and the marlins for 149. You may want to search for a used 10/22 that has already been upgraded with at least some of the parts you want if any.

Still have my Marlin Model 60 wooden stock my dad gave me for my first rifle when I was ten. 18 years later its still shooting as good as the day I got it.

well was wanting to take it out and shoot it this weekend but got so caught up doing other stuff and I finally have time to shoot it today but it's 30 degrees and dropping outside.

I feel your pain. I got my youngest a 10/22 for Christmas and he was wanting to shoot today.
