Boss found 2 covey's 4 singles on public land. All shots fired up and not at birds. Hoping for a fair crop next season. I can't wait. I'm 60 and get more excited than when I was 30. I just love it I really do! Rick Titus

Great picture! I usually get the backs of the hunters.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Nice picture. Boss was probably thinking, darn he missed again.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Assuming this is for the purpose of conservation due to low numbers? Sorry, haven't gotten into upland hunting yet, but I know the numbers are down. Do you just shoot so your dog knows he did his job pointing then flushing?

The wild birds are so hard to come by at Fort Hood I just thought it would be the right thing to do. Yes, I want him to hear that gun shot, I'm not sure why but it is what I have always done before season with a blank pistol. Used to be a bird dog around every corner back in the day at Fort Hood, now its just me and one other fellow who is a die hard also. 250k acres and two bird doggers. I know this because I work with the Game Wardens at Fort Hood and the many miles we walk and never ever see another hunter or dog quail hunting that is.

Are you allowed to bring and work pen raised birds there?

yes you can bring pen raised birds to hunt. Its been some years since it was a productive quail spot. We used to be able to hunt the live fire area and that was some beautiful country and lots of birds. They only allow dear hunting out there now but the Natural Resources folks say that is still where the best bird population is on Fort Hood.
