With the arrival (finally) of some nice warm and dry weather for shooting, I headed to our hunting lease's rifle range for a play date with my Savage Model 40 .22 Hornet.

I use nothing but Hodgdon's Lil'Gun powder for the hornet. The first two "bragging targets" below are with 35 grain Hornady V-Max bullets. The next three are with 40 grain V-Max bullets. (Please - hold the applause. )

Fantastic Hornet results! I get 3000 FPS with Lil Gun and that 35 grain VMAX in my Anschutz. I usually get 4 grouped tight and then a slight flyer. The curse of many Hornet rifles, but not yours.

I've heard lots of good reports on Lil Gun in the Hornet. I've wondered though, if the powder offered by Thunderbird Cartridge (T680) is anything like W680. Anyone ever try it?
