If it was me and I could afford both leases, I'd do it for one year with an option to see what it was like firsthand.....Don't like it, you still have the 100 acre. It goes well, you move....

your right, your odds of harvesting a trophy theoretically are better on 1000 acres than 100 acres. I'd say give it a go

Yeah I was thinking the same. I'm pretty strict and stubborn when I tell my dad what route I suggest to walk to the blind or when to fill the feeders. The 100 acres is perfect because I control the amount of hunting pressure i put on the deer and which deer we consider shooters, but can't control the neighbors once they cross in and out of the property.

Coronado, I hunt not far from you between Aguilares and San Ygnacio and I have to say, over the years I've seen and heard of more/nicer deer coming out of the Oilton/Bruni/Mirando City area than South of Hebronville. You're already not far from Hebronville, directionally are you close to the municipal airport by chance? Unless you're looking for more company/camaraderie and possibly attitudes to manage, I'd personally stay put, especially since you've indicated pretty nice bucks taken. If you've seen/harvested nice ones on the 100 acres, there's better ones yet to be seen IMO.

My dad actually has a friend that hunts in that exact location between aguilares and san ygnacio. Beautiful bucks in that area. I'm pretty close to the airport. I'm about a mile from the Bruni checkpoint and right off the highway 359. Are you still in webb county or cross into Zapata?

How many years have you hunted down there, and how many acres are you hunting if you don't mind me asking? Hopefully I can scout the 1000 acres pretty soon and make a decision on what I will do.

Nearly 700 acres, 30-35 years, basically a family lease with my Dad, myself occasionally, and two brothers. Lots, lots of deer in the 130-150 range with bigger seen, though rarely shot. Bigger for good reason...

That's awesome. Our genetics are not as good as that. We saw many 120's and a couple 130-135. However most of the bucks were 3.5 and younger. Only had one that was atleast 5.5 and my dad took it out. THe deer population is crazy though. At one point before the season we counted atleast 16 different bucks coming to the feeders in a week span.

I exactly know where you're at near the checkpoint before the airport. Are you on the left or right side of 359 going to Hebronville? Honestly, sounds like you have a pretty sweet setup on the 100 acres. Like I said, if you want more camaraderie then I'd do it, otherwise, I'd be inclined to stay with what you have. To find productive small acreage which has not been high fenced out is rare down there as I'm guessing you know. You ever get into LaLa's in Mirando City? Some really good hunting going through Mirando back into those hills past town too. Gets to be quite sandy though.

A good buddy of mine is an offshore fishing guide. Prior to that he was a pro bass angler. He has a saying and I agree, "It's a fool that leaves fish to find fish". With that said, it couldn't hurt to look into the 1000 acre place. It might be better, might not. You'll never know until you look. Good luck.
