I am looking into getting a dilion 650. for loading pistol ammo.
This is what I have worked up so far I think...
Dillion 650XL Strong Mount Dillion carbide dies for 45 acp case feeder low powder alarm Powder check 4 extra primer pick up tubes Aluminum bullet tray little tool holder with allen wrenches and what not. XL 650 maintenance kit spare parts kit cover for reloader aluminum roller handle primer flip tray
Anything else you could think of.
Thanks
Walter

Hi Walter,
Good list and I think that your 650 with case feed will serve you well. I love mine.
You might want to get a Dillon CV-2001 Case Tumbler with their CM-2000 Case/Media Separator, too. Their Rapid Polish 290 works great, too. You can buy corn cobb/walnut polishing media locally here at W.W, Grainer.
Regards,

Sounds like a solid set up. You'll find the only thing that will slow you down is stopping to refill your primer tubes. The automatic primer filler dillon offers is nice...but geez its pricey.

Spend the $35-$40 and get the Frankford Aresenal primer tube filler. It fills the primer tubes in about 8-10 seconds! Trust me, it's worth it!

Thanks guys will definatly be going to get a primer tube filler, just not sure which one yet.
Chad are you running a 1050 for loading pistol ammo. I am thinking of maybe just going ahead and getting a 1050 instead of a 650 but I am not sure.
Thanks

I have 1- 650 and 3- 1050's. I load 10mm and 40 on either. The 1050 will run faster. But, for the cost, the 650 is a good option. I loaded thousands of 40 cal and 10mm on it. It will work fine. Caliber conversions is much easier on a 650 than a 1050. So, if you plan to change, I'd go 650.

I mostly shoot 45 and in the long run either way I go I will have at least two one for large primers and one for small. At most I will reload 45, and 9 then eventually 40 if I buy another gun in 40.
I was just thinking with the extra stations and priming on the down stroke it might be worth it to go 1050. After getting all geared up for a 650 It wouldn't be that much more.

Well, there is a very large difference from the 650 to the 1050. The 1050 is awesome, so if you are debating, go 1050. Most people balk at the initial price, but them realize the quality and functionality difference over the 650. But the 650 is a good press.

Personally, I would vote 1050 over 650. Sounds like you are buying by name and popularity and not by need. Dillion 650XL (ONLY if you need a case feeder and buy one--otherwise, get the L-N-L) Strong Mount (why? Get the bench at the right height to begin with. I find the mount to put the press up higher than I like) Dillion carbide dies for 45 acp (Why? Lee dies are as good. Dillon has a very slight advantage if you use lead bullets and way too much lube as you can pull the seating stem without touching the die body. The sizing die simply has too much chamfer and Lee and Hornady dies size lower on the case. I really prefer my Hornady and Lee dies over the Dillon dies that came with the presses). case feeder (Good, that can justify the 650) low powder alarm (what? You can't LOOK at the hopper when you load more primer?) Powder check (or the RCBS Lock-Out die) 4 extra primer pick up tubes Aluminum bullet tray (been happy for years with the box the bullets come in or the akro-bin myself) little tool holder with allen wrenches and what not. XL 650 maintenance kit spare parts kit cover for reloader aluminum roller handle primer flip tray (the Dillon is the least effective. I like the size and weight, but it is the poorest at actually flipping the primers. So poor, that I dump the primers in, pick up the shiny-side-up primers, put the lid on, flip the tray, and pick up the rest of the primers. The best flipper is the one Lee uses for their hand primers. Currently, I use the Frankford Arsenal Vibra-Prime Automatic Primer Tube Filler)

Defiantly not buying completely by need. I do need a press to load handgun ammo as I will never do it on a single stage again. I am going with Dillon because from all my research they are the best in the business with the best warranty.
Thanks

I shoot over 2500 rounds of. 40 a year loaded off of a SDB and have yet to complain. Why not just get one ot two of them? I load 300+ an hour, including picking up primers.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I thought about the SDB. but I like the fact that with the 650 if I ever choose I can do more with it and there is more available accessories for it. I am wanting one of the better machines not because I shoot too much but more for the speed factor I rather spend my time shooting more of working on my rifle or so on not loading pistol ammo.

How much do you actually shoot?
I have a 550 and 1050 on the bench and have owned many 650s.
You can do a realistic 500 an hour on the 550.
You'll almost double that with the 650 and 1050.
Problem is you'll also spend more time setting up and adjusting and readjusting the bigger machines.
If your not shooting 5000+ a year of a single caliber the 550 works fine.
A caliber change on a 1050 will cost what a whole new 550 will. Just something to think about.....

the only thing that I like about the 650 over the 55o is the auto index.

I bought my first Dillon SDB in 1996, have bought two more. Easier to use a dedicated one for 45, 9mm, and 38, IMO.
