What kind of bow sight does everyone use? You happy with it?

I have a cheap Apex sight and I'm looking to upgrade.

Anyone have anything you'd sell me?

Black Gold and Spot Hogg both make great sights.

It depends on what you expect out of a sight and what your goals are. Are you mostly hunting, 3D, shooting spots, etc. Do you hunt deer from a blind, spot and stalk or maybe elk hunt, maybe all of the above. Lot can depend on the speed of your bow what options you might want to consider. How good is your eye sight may drive pin size. Do you hunt in the dark? You want to shoot out to 20 or 30 yards or go out to 40 or 50 or how about out to 70 or 100? All these come in to play when picking the right sight.

Give be some specifics and I will be happy to make a recommendation based on what I think will best position you to be consistent on a target.

I'm mostly just deer hunting and turkey hunting. Low light, sure, but not really any at night. For now, Im shooting 20-40 yards. I'd like to be able to practice out a little further but I don't like the idea of a one pin. I'm shooting a Martin Cheetah. 60# 29" if that helps any.

Do you know how fast you are shooting? My guess is somewhere between 250 and 275. If you are shooting under 260+/- I would get a bigger pin guard. Speed will determine what size pin guard I would recommend. A slow bow causes you to spread out the pins so you need a bigger pin guard to accommodate the pin spacing.

A 3 pin sight as a good starting point. Shooting a whitetail past 30 is tricky so for most hunters I recommend staying with three pins. For most guys more than 3 pins clutter the sight window. When you get ready to shot any critter there is a lot going on in your head and the least amount you have to "think about" the better. Keeping the clutter down helps me a lot.

Depending on your budget you might consider this.

If you are not target shooting I would consider a 3 pin (or maybe a 4) Black Gold Rush. Easy to adjust and rock solid. Can be bought for around or under $100.

A step up would be a Black Gold Surge. It will give you better adjustability and is a lot better sight over all than the Surge but will run you about $180+/-.

If you really want a great sight I would go with a Spot Hogg - Hogg It, 3 pin with the big guard. For around $220 you get a sight that will help you with your accuracy, it really will. Since I have gone to a Hogg It my % of shots in the X-Ring and kill zone has improved a lot.

There are lots of options out there and half the fun is picking one. Hope this helps.

Here is my Hogg It in action.
