My uncle just texted me "Wanna go hunting this weekend?" Apparently he's leased 46 acres 40ish miles north of Austin (not sure exactly where) and he says theres some biguns! I haven't been able to hunt in two years and probably won't get to go before deer season is over but might make it early next spring for some hogs! Getting the time off work is gonna be the hard part! THANK THE LORD!

Thats true. Unless you're a guide. Lol.

I know Leander Tx is "out that way" and in years past, there where some good deer in the lake Travis North area. Congrats and good hunting (after the work is done grin)

Oh, I absolutely don't have a problem with guides. But in that case, hunting does pay the bills.

Good to hear! And I doubt I'll be doing much work as the way he prefers hunting is all natural. No blinds and no feeders.

On 46 acres he's gonna' need at least one feeder. All the neighbors have them, in order to compete you need to level the playing field. Besides walking or stalking around on a small place will do nothing but run off the deer. I've got a 50 acre place in an extremely high density area I hunt and I've got Oat plots and two feeders. Still don't see deer every sit. I would get really bored just watching a trail for days on end, while hearing gunshots from the neighbors. Other than that, congratulations.

I agree with ErathKid as a rule, but if the lease is West of Leander by chance, there is a ton of deer.

I have seen herds on a ranch I worked there years ago that numbered to 50-60 head. Of course the terrain and development could have made a huge impact, but that country was way over limit. Back then, there wasn't allot of small places, but I'm sure that has changed too. Bottom line, as Erath said, at least a feeder to raise your odds.

You might explain to your Uncle that feeders let you "size up" an animal, and give you a shot at a still target rather than a moving one, making for more precise and ethical shot placement.

Im not 100% sure. He used to hunt like that back in the 90's. He might be different now. We will see. And I doubt he would care if I wanted to put a feeder out for myself.
