Anyone been hunting on ray Roberts lately? I haven't had time to scout the lake and was gonna try and hunt this thanksgiving? Any advice on birds? Are they working at all? Or should I not even waste my time. The birds are working like Miley Cyrus is twerking. Get out there and shoot 'em in the face.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

not trying to find everyone's favorite hunting spot. you can walk up timber creek if you want to. i just dont understand all the negativity on this place. i guess im gonna take the canoe towards the main lake a little bit like last year. How long have you hunted local lakes? If it's more than 3 years, then you've noticed the influx of Drake camo and Chevy trucks at the ramps and walk-in sites. Even a dead drunk grandmother with one eye would notice the increasing amount of hunters shooting at fewer ducks. Most of these guys spend a large amount of time and gas scouting and patterning the flights. When you name spots on a public forum, at least 300 people read it. Even if half of them hit the spot you named, it will be trashed and shot out in 2 weeks. It's a public lake, chill out man. All the negativity really gets old in here. It's not just here, you will get the same response on any waterfowl forum. The other waterfowl forums will not be as nice as this forum. There is a "public forum", you will get better response over there.. http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/43/1/Public_Hunting

The thing about lake naming is you're only naming a lake. Sure there is some internet hunters but if you lake name you can use it to your advantage. Most of these internet hunters just set up on the open lake where most of the ducks don't even land. So if you name a lake just expect the main lake to be flooded. Also if you do your homework you should have multiple spots. I have 8 spots on one lake and 6 on another. On a plus side, I made a trip to Sabine in Louisiana the places is loaded with ducks and people but the sad thing is we killed a 4 man limit in 15 minutes and everyone else we talked to killed 3 or 4 a piece. That goes to show you if you do your homework it pays off.

Has anyone tried on 922 or buck creek? My buddy who lives off 922 would probably want to fight you right now for posting such a specific part of the lake for everyone on the world wide web to see. Prob the reason why we woke up at 4 yesterday to find 3-4 plus cars on every turn around. Place is ridiculously crowded, birds gettin sky busted every 300 yards. It's pointless unless you got a mud motor and just really know what your doing, which you obviously don't. Sorry for the rant, just blows our hometown lake has to get its lake beds trampled by every barny in dfw who turned the channel to A&E last winter.
Thanks for all the positive THF support. Y'all are awesome.

Naming a lake is one thing, giving off specifics, even if you're just trying to falsely lead them away from your spot, still ***** the people that actually hunt there.

Dang what time do you have to leave your house to get to Ray Bob before LST coming up from Crosby, seems like there would be some where a lot closer to you?

It's always the guys that have low post count that can't believe people are so "mean" when it comes to naming lakes. After Duck Dynasty has been long off the air most of the guys that were here before that will still be here and if you are new now and still here you'll probably begin to understand why naming places to hunt in a public forum online isn't the best thing.
Personally I don't even care anymore...I don't really hunt much public at all these days. It's probably been 3 years since I hunted a public spot and if you can find that place then god bless you. But if you like the area you hunt I'd STFU about it unless you want it to get crowded. Out of pure respect for my fellow duck hunters who primarily hunt public I'll never name a public place within the state. About as general as I'll get is maybe North, West, or Coast.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

My general rule in duck hunting is to lie to everybody about where I hunt. I have about 3 people that I will be honest with. Everybody else I usually tell them a different lake. When people do tell me where they hunt, I expect to be lied to. Nobody is gonna give a stranger good spots on public, more so when it's a city boy lake like Ray Bob. When you see more hunters than ducks....it's time to find a new place.

Most of this crowd isn't "mean." We just respect people enough to shoot straight and call people out when they are wrong. Being impossible to tell people's tone or inflection from a post, our direct nature comes across as harsh and abrasive. That's unfortunate as most of us are really laid back guys that aren't the jerks some accuse us of being. There are very few people that post on JPs forums that I didn't like after meeting face to face.
Having said that, if you get corrected for something you're totally ignorant about, try to appreciate the fact that some of us took the time to fill you in. If you take everything as if someone were chastising you, your panties will bunch up quick, and you'll be ridiculed mercilessly.

All I have heard are horror stories about that lake. However once the water level rises back to a normal height I have permission on private land on one of the creeks from that lake. Can't wait till all the crazy hunters push birds down the creek right into my hands. Let it rain let it rain!

I hunted public this morning and didn't even hear another shotgun go off. Didn't limit out but had a great time enjoying the outdoors and the peace and quiet.
If you have to worry that much about other people and are crying about all the duck dynasty wannabees and top waters I got bad news for you. Birds of a feather flock together.

[quote] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I heard an interview of the son who runs the company. He said that 80% of the duck calls they sell are purchased by people who have never fired a gun in their lives. They buy the call and set it on their desk to "toot" at the guy in the cubicle next to them. What that means is that most of the newbies we are seeing on public land are carrying a gun for the first time and have never been taught proper gun safety or ediquet. Better be on your toes in the parking areas and watch where they swing those muzzles.
