I Will have access to some flooded timber/green tree reservoirs, but never hunted them before.

I will be accessing by walking in and around.

Looking for general tips and advice (Mallards in the area). What are the best weather conditions to hunt it in? (I assume sunny windy days, but How are rainy/cloudy days?) How big of a gap in the timber is needed to set up in? Do mojos help more in timber? Any timber specific calling tips? Anything else I am missing?

Bring on the advice, I'm like a sponge.

I hunt flooded timber around the trinity river. In my experience the most effective days weve had were rainy and foggy. Warmer days were less productive. We set up about 3 dozen decoys and a few mojos.

Keep the mojos in the brush if at all possible. They seem to like that better than right in the middle of the hole.

If you build it, they will come

Also use very subtle calling tactics. Your calls will echo inside the timber. I like an Echo brand timber call the best for woods. Hope this helps bud

Keep the calling to a minimum, we also have success right at LST and keep the decoys to a minimum.

Best advice: Bring me along and I will SHOW you how to do it!

Just kidding. Keep the calls quiet- as they will echo. I actually prefer overcast days in timber- less shadows. Keep robo's off to the side, not exactly where you want them to land.

They don't need a huge hole to come through, but DO need to be able to see the decoys, but not you- that is the most important part.

Of coarse you need to scout and find exactly where the birds are going in at. Being off by 200yds is the difference between a 5 man limit of green, and a zero. Also note that just because you find birds in one spot doesn't mean they flew there, a lot of times in timber they'll drop in in one area and swim to the desired destination depending on how thick the canopy of the trees is.

You need to know were they are feeding.. if there is a strong concentration of oak with a good skylight near it that's were id be... I usually call in timber very little... if they are passing then you can to get their attention but sometimes its best to let the mojo do the work....if there is any type of pipeline or highline going though it no dout need to set up on the edge of it.... best advice I can give you is if you get set up and see the birds are liking it somewere else....grab what deeks you can carry and MOVE... don't sit and think you will eventually get them to work in...

I think the bolded portion is very good advice...

you should probably wait for duckboy007 to chime in with his authentic arkansas gibberish before you make a final decision

I'd be happy to show you in person! grin

I've never hunted timber with more than a dozen dekes. Mojos, if used, are back in the timber, not in the hole. Hole size doesn't matter.

The key is finding where the ducks want to be. Just because you see them on the water, doesn't mean they landed there. They likely landed elsewhere and then swam in.

Stay flexible. Don't be afraid to move. Scout.

Call softly if the ducks are on top of you and keep clucking them all the way down to the water. It gives them something to key in on. Also I saw this on RNT-V and instead of using a comeback or hail call when the ducks make the downwind swing, use an aggressive cut feed or refuge feed I think some people call it. Then when they swing back cluck them right down to your feet. I've used the cut feed that way with great results. It's definitely different than the plain old comeback call.
