Wondering if anyone can help me out. I got my hands on a few pintail decoys. Gonna throw them in my spread this weekend and wondering the best way to arrange them. Should I mix them in with the mallards or leave them to one side seperate? Thanks for any input and help!

I'm no pro, but I've been putting mine to the side in their own group

I keep them separate. I could not tell you if it hurts to have them mixed I just always separate them and always have. Typically in the wild like ducks fly with like ducks more often than not. But if you take a look at some photos where ducks are packed into an area they can be all mixed up so who knows.

Really apprciate the advice! I've heard a lot of people say they add them because of the white, kind of an eye catcher. Nice bag of birds!

I think this is the biggest reason to set them apart. I don't think the birds mind seing them mixed in with mallards (I see them together in the wild all the time). But, when you set them apart in a group they make your spread stand out more with all the white together.

I think it depends. Early season various specious tens to congregate together often. When they start courtship and breeding each species will start to segregate more.

I throw out decoys however the birds were when I scouted them the day before. Mix if they are mixed. Separate if they were separated.

I haven't been able to do much scounting with work and all. Wish I could. But hopefully this fronts pushing a better number of birds down! I'm gonna assume so anyway, much rather be hunting than working!

I prefer to call them racists.

Funny, I setup almost exactly like this a lot:

Groups to each side with oversized pinners in the middle a little further out. 3 on a jerk rig.

I see. Makes it more appealing. I guess I'll just have to see how it works.

Some times I do a combo of both. Mallards and Pintails together with a line of Pintails leading in.
