Finally we got into some birds. Capt. Scott Leggitt did his homework and ended up putting a smackdown on some birds.. Ended up with 32 for the morning. Pintails, Redheads, Bluebills, Teal, Spooner, whistling tree duck and topped it off with a rare Black Hen Scoter.

Switched gears and finished up the day with some reds. Ended up with 6 total and one of them was a 31incher. The guide noticed after the initial hookup that it was a big fish, he coached the angler as much as he could. Scott had to get out of the boat and chase the fish that went into a curving creek entrance. After fighting the fish back to the pond they were in handed the rod back to the customer and finished him off. Awesome trip

Like the whistlers! Seems as if there are several being killed down there this year.

The whistlers saved the trip. Scott said about 300 tried to land in the spread at once and they shot 10 out of one group! Had some nice drakes as well

How do you tell the difference in a male and female black bellied or fulvous whistling duck?? confused2 The males and females of both species look identical, like geese.

After doing some research, after the question. I'm guessing he shot some immature whistlers. Some where black bellied out and others had a grayer chest. Sorry about the mix up

Whoa! Awesome trip!

Bagging that scoter in TX is an awesome trophy, and I bet you made a bunch of birders mad smile

Thanks for sharing.
