Beretta 3901 12ga, you will never be able to break it or wear it out.

And you'll have money left over for more junk

Or even the Beretta A300 Outlander. Can get the camo one for $750 or less, leaving some room for shells or waders.

Stoeger M3000 then take the remaining $500+/- and head to Choctaw and turn it into $1000.

With the slow down in guns sales starting, there should be some nice gun deals this holiday season.

Haha there are endless threads trashing the versamax, I don't think your a serious gunner for waterfowl. If you were you would hate that gun.
Read this son, it's just one of many.

I am not going to get into a urine contest with you, but I kill more than my fair share of ducks each year and I love my VersaMax. I also love my Vinci and my 1187. Every gun maker makes lemons and there are hundreds of threads out there on each of the makers. And, I won't disagree with you that the VersaMax did have problems coming out and should have been fixed prior. But, so has every other gun as well. The have it fixed now and it is a fine waterfowling gun.

Fair enough, curious how old your 1187 is?

I'll back you up there. The VersaMax is actually a pretty intriguing design. When Benellis patent on the M4 ARGO system expired, Remington sporterized it with the VersaMax… It's almost a direct copy - like to the point that parts are interchangeable. It's extremely likely that anyone here would love a VersaMax if they hadn't read 1,000 threads on these inter tubes about how horrible they are (which were pretty much all written by people who have never seen one).

Yes, Remington scares me. Yes, they even managed to screw up the 870. Yes, they are having major, major QC issues company wide. I would still be open to a VersaMax because they're just cool… It seems to me that it would be cheaper to have higher QC standards, but if there's something wrong with a Remington that you purchase they will (eventually) fix it.

I put the Affinity ahead of the VersaMax for that reason, but I'm not going to snob a VersaMax if I have the opportunity to pick one up for the right price.

Either a used Nova or Super Nova or a Tri Star Camo. They are really well made and way under your budget

For about 5-6 hundo more you can buy any of the B brand duck guns you want. Get what you want when it comes to a duck gun...there is a good chance you could be hunting with this gun for the rest of your life unless you buy that just ok for now gun but not the one you really want. After all if you are going to be a bear ya might as well be a GD grizzly bear.

I've seen way to many people try to save money but end up buying the gun they wanted all along two years later. There is some equipment that you can go cheap on and some you don't want to and a gun is one of those.

I don't know you jskin and if duck hunting isnt really your thing then a $900 gun will certainly work...but if you are like many of us on here where waterfowling really is their thing then you might want to reconsider your budget on this....and if that means waiting to save up then I would do just that.
