Im sure it has been adressed on here .....but here goes

What does your ideal lease look like?

Lets exclude opening weekend and the final weekend, probably when camp is the fullest. For the sake of opinion only, sleeping arrangements aren't an issue.

Who goes to the Lease

For the most part, ours is setup ideally in my opinion. Nobody but the leasee is allowed on the property during hunting season until after Thanksgiving. Once Thanksgiving rolls around, the leasee can bring one immediate family member and that individual must use a tag from the leasee for any animal taken.

No women are allowed in camp, which is the one thing I dont agree with since I would love to take my wife out there for an evening in the woods on occasion. Other than that, I have no real issues with the lease that I am on.

tough question for me, the place I'm hunting now, I'd rather it be JUST paid hunters.

the place I hunted before had tons of deer and no 'lease limits'
so hunters and guests.

The paying hunter pays for a spot for the amount of tags as per the lease agreement. Limit me on guests and it would be a case they could keep the lease, I don't care how great the places is or how cheap it is. If I cannot bring my wife or one of the grand kids, they can keep it.

On the leases I have been on and enjoyed you paid for your spot, you were allowed to shoot what your tags allowed. You had to shoot them. You could bring a wife, girlfriend or child and that was about it.

Worked out great for me.

If I can't bring my wife and kids, I'll pass...I can't see how anyone expects the youngsters to get into hunting if they don't grow up hunting confused2 just my opinion

At the same time, I totally understand that people with unruly and wild kids can totally ruin a lease...so I'll contradict myself before anyone else does grin

Different rules for different folks but in my case wives and kids, or grandkids in my case, have to be welcome or I'm not interested. Kids 17 and older are paying members. Wives are not charged to hunt. They give the place a healthier looks and make it smell much better. grin

The perfect lease would be one that has a 5 deer limit and has the deer that would allow each hunter to take at least 4 deer. It one allow one trophy, 8 point or better, one cull, and two/three does. The hunter pays for the tags. Wife, sons and daughters and when the time comes grand children to hunt off hunters tags. First weekend thru second weekend is for hunters only, that meaning only hunters and their spouse is allowed, with only hunter allowed to take game. After that family is welcome. Strict rules for children's behavior. No one is allowed to ride four wheelers through out the lease and all motor vehicles are to stay on roads except when filling feeders and retrieving game.

My wife doesn't hunt unfortunately but, I hunt with my kids and occasionally bring my father. I get the "kids 17 and over need to be paid hunters" and am having an internal debate about next year as my 18yr. son and I have time to hunt again so I kind of see it as paying for too many deer. If I am in a 5 deer county we will not ever shoot more than that combined but, I also agree with the one "shooter buck" so if we are both going to want to shoot a nice buck I will be paying twice I guess.

Places that do not allow wifes and kids do not understand what hunting is all about. IMO

Never understood the lease where women aren't allowed. I've got the best of both worlds. We stay at my in-laws and hunt on the relatives place across town. Wife takes one kid and I take the other. Although the older one is starting to hunt on his own. We'll take an occasional guest, but it's does only for them.

I made theese arrangment with my hunters when we signed, Hunter + family + guest is on paid tag doe and hog only no more than 2 of legal age at a time, kids "under 16" must be in arms reach of adult at all times or in camp...
Never had a complaint!

880acres 8 paid hunters $850 gun includes water and electric
Erath/Bosque county

My wife doesn't hunt or fish, but throws a mean game of washers, likes to talk smack and drink a few beer around the fire, we all have daughters 8-14... Its a blast!!

I only go where it's kid friendly. It's gotten to the point that when my son isn't with me, it just seems like something is missing.

When I put time and money into a lease to go Hunt the last thing I want to do is walk around Big Wheels and Tractors and GI Joe dolls strung all over the place! Once a child is up big enough to wipe his butt and the parents can CONTAIN them I love to see a young lady or Boy get on a Deer but if you pull up in a Mini Van and unload TOYS for 30 minutes and it looks like you have your own future 8 man football team and 5 dogs, I'm Out or will just stay in my stand or Butt Hutt. If we take our Grand daughter she will be right beside my wife courteous and NO RUNNING, SCREAMING. Drives me insane when people bring a herd and just let them run wild, I WILL leave and have NO problem with telling them why.

So your lease rules say that if your family member kills a deer, then you must put your tag on it?? Seems unlawful..

I marked "paid hunters" but I really don't have a problem with "non-hunting" guests opening weekend. Just don't let 'em roam all over the place. Also, although I like kids and have taken a bunch with me to blinds, don't expect me to babysit them the whole time you're there......

FWIW - My wife goes with me, but she's a paid hunter too! She doesn't like to babysit me either...

Ours allows family and guests. They shoot on the paid hunter's quota and hunt in his designated area.

We have a camp of trailers and enjoy year-round hunting & camping with our friends and family. Even our dogs get along.

We have sort of an unwritten rule that all the family must be potty trained and able to understand how to stay out of cactus (or pick their own needles out - dogs excepted).

If I were the younger bachelor type, I could see a "guys only" lease, but I got this to teach my grandkids the love of hunting and the outdoors. It is working. Here's evidence > Opening Day. . I couldn't have been happier if I'd shot the deer myself.

Where's the just me and my family option? That's how I like it.

Only time I've been around large groups of hunters that I didn't know is dove season and don't really care for it then, too much BS.

I consider myself lucky as I'm on a family and guest friendly lease. Family and Guest are allowed on the lease and must be accompanied by the paying member at all times. They're allowed to hunt off the paying members quota.

We've never really had an issue with children or guest. (Knock on wood). My wife doesn't hunt but I plan on bringing my son once he is old enough. Depending on the amount of doe tags we recieve i will bring my dad for a hunt, and will bring a friend to shoot a doe as well.

I hunt a large MLD property and as long as whomever you bring, child, sibling, parent or friend hunts with you and uses your tag(s), we don't have an issue. It sucks having to hammer and clean a dozen or more does every year anyway, so a little help is nice and the meat doesn't go to waste.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Well it's good know that I'm not crazy. I want my family to be a part of hunting. Just like watching my kids make a good catch or hit the tar out of a baseball, I can't wait for the day when one of them has a deer in the crosshairs. My wife isn't into hunting, but she loves the outdoors. I think she would get a real kick out of sitting in a blind and seeing some of the deer/animals we have seen this year. I probably wouldn't shoot anything with her in the stand, but I will be ready in case "The One" walks out.
