Hey what is a good way to keep the mosquitoes off? Anyone use the thermocell thing or scentless bug spray?

Do deer smell them?

I swear by my Thermacell. I went out to bow hunt around mid October and set up in this spot that was infested with mosquitoes. The were all over me while I was setting my pop up blind up. Once I got it set up, there were quite a few inside of the blind. I turned on the Thermacell and left the zipper open at the top of the door in back. Within about 5 minutes, all the mosquitoes were gone.

We also use it on the back porch and you will see mosquitoes flying at you and then they just veer off when they get within its range. They work great.

I'm not sure if the regular Thermacell pads will affect the deer, but I have seen recently that they make some of the pads with a fresh earth scent that they advertise as a cover scent.

Agree with all above, get a Thermacell, also the earth scent are just cover scent not repelant.

Until then, No Stinkin Bugs has done the trick for me for years!

After reading this, Ill be buying a thermacell this week. Got ate up last weekend and was forced to use OFF to save myself.

Thermacell. I saw at Academy that they are selling doe in estrus as well as the earth cover scent.

Thermacell works great on skeeters but dont let anybody tell you its oderless cause you can smell it and it smokes a little. Does it spook game? I think so but alot of guys swear by em and the choice of gettin eaton alive or thermacell aint much of a choice.

I agree with Hoytman - they do smoke (you can see the smoke) and it's not really "odorless". I have one and it works great. I don't know the repercussions of using it in a completely closed space, but per the directions, it says not to.

I have talked to several hunters that say deer don't pay attention to it - whether they actually "smell" it or not - I don't know.

I vote Thermocell.

I've used my Thermocell for hog and deer hunting and have never been "busted" because of it. I'm certain they can smell the thing if down wind, but it is not a smell that seems to bother them.

I just bought a thermacell and will be using it this weekend. I wonder if it will keep away the lady bug swarms as well if they come back.

I have seen deer using the earth scent and the regular. They are freaking awesome. About 5 minutes after it is on I never see another mosquito.

Wow. I guess we have a winner here. Thermocell. I have one and don't leave camp without it. That reminds me, I'm out of butane. Note to self.....
