The following notice was sent out by the Exotic Wildlife Association:
"There have been 2 ranches in Harper, Texas over the past 2 weeks that have had their 8 foot fences cut from top to bottom in 4-6 places. No animals were taken. The fences were tied back in an effort to let the animals out. Both ranch's fences were cut on a Friday night."

LF vs HF debate aside, that is a crappy thing to do.

How do they know nothing got out? That's a crappy thing to do. They will get caught.

Either some peta's or jealous neighbors. I've seen deer clear HF's, so if they really want out, it'll happen. Chances are the deer have a better quality of life in the HF than out, don't think the peta's understand that. Not much for them to leave over unless lovin season.

I wouldn't rule out a "Friends of Animals" wacko.
They seem to want everything to be extinct rather than be hunted.
We had a gate break open in a flood and saw animal tracks going out the gate. So we knew at least an animal or two went through. Maybe prints is how they determined that no animals escaped. Deer raised on a HF know their boundaries and really do not look for ways out.

I would think that someone hunting on a neighboring property wants to shoot a few trophy deer (or maybe exotics) without having to pay for them.

People cut fences all the time, LF and HF. This just happens to be somebody's deer cage.

One of these also just happens to be a mans business. Also what happens when a buffalo steps out onto a heavily traveled highway and someone gets killed because some db decided to cut and tie a fence open

Really? Did you take how to be a D-Bag classes, or does it just come naturally? I will bet dollars to donuts that you (1) own no land, and (2) have no appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who do.

I think whoever did it should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I've had my fences cut a time or two. Once the DB was too lazy to open the wire gap so he cut it. Never made the news...

On my land My fences keep my means of income in as well, they just happen to be cattle, not wild animals. And sorry if I missed d-bag class were you learned to appreciate high fences and the sacrifice the owners made to cage deer.

If this is along hwy 290 my guess is animal rights nut cases. Every year, opening morning we have at least one carload of DBs honking and yelling as they drive down the stretch of hwy 290 before you get to Harper

I don't see how you can assume any particular person or group is to blame. As noted above, it does happen with some frequency around the state and it isn't necessarily by animal rights folks, though they have done it as well. It is easy to want to blame the animal rights folks because they are often at odds with us, but there are plenty of no-good hunters out there as well, not to mention jealous neighbors, disgruntled employees/customers, vandals, etc. who are not associated with animals rights at all.

Where I am, they don't cut fences. They just drive vehicles through them.

DNS, I agree with all of this except the "no good Hunters" part. They are not Hunters they are criminals be they fence cutters, poachers etc. As a community we can't let the press, PETA, humane society much less ourselves refer to people like this as Hunters. They are not, they are criminals plain and simple.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox, my apologies but I'm a hunter (as are most on THF) those people are not
