Whats affordable in your opinion ? There are many places that have both species but market is high these days and the cheapest I have seen them start out at is around $1250-$1500 each and thats the bottom side. Good luck and thank you for your service.

Deven, contact Glynn with Koons Canyon Ranch. He offers a military discount and was very involved in making sure I had a great time my first trip down (I've since been numerous times). I can assure you that he will work with you in any way possible. The 2 main animals on his ranch are axis and blackbuck.

you should be able to get a hunt for a axis/blackbuck females for less than your price. they eat better than the males anyway and in my experience are more weary than some of the males are.

if you arent trying to get a trophy on the wall, i would go that route and save some of your money.

if you are saying you want a non trophy male, you will have a tougher time since most axis/blackbuck in that class are only lacking in age before they get to a trophy quality range.

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

Glynn will work with you as best as possible. He often has "cull" axis bucks for a lower price, but not sure about the blackbuck.

A cull axis and pigs for two should be doable. Two males exotics, even culls gets to be tough, at that price point.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Deven, thank you for your service!!

If it was within my power, I would subsidize your hunt. But since I can't currently do that, I can only offer my advice.

First, to find both BB and Axis on the same property in sufficient numbers to have a reasonable chance of success on a single weekend hunt is going to mean a HF hunt. Prices for two bucks, even culls, on a HF operation is going to be tough to do on your budget. Unless, of course, the rancher cuts you one heck of a deal.

Even then, if culls, it might be hard to find both animals and get a shot at them - leaving you heading for home empty handed. After all, most HF hunts aren't gimmes.

LF/free range it might be near impossible.

Therefore, I suggest that you try a doe hunt as suggested above, or a combo hunt for a cull buck, with a doe thrown in.

It is my experience that places with BB usually have a surplus of does, and you can often get them cheap or a free add-on.

That doesn't mean it's easy. Murphy's law often means there's tons of BB does around until you want to hunt them.

Keep an open mind and flexible plans, take what presents themselves, be it two axis does, 2 BB, or combo or cull bucks - and you'll have a much better chance with leaving with two animals.

Remember, even day fees can add up on the cheapest hunts if you spend 2-3 days and don't harvest - when you are on very tight budget. A lot of places will offer "free" days to come back if you aren't successful, but even gas and other expenses can stack up if you have to make several trips.
