Opening bowhunting season was last week and the weather was pretty bad (windy and overcast with light drizzle) and saw absolutely no deer movement. My lease about 10 west of JunctionTx. (Ft. McKavett), and I was wondering if anyone else in this area had the same scenario. Any predictions for this this weekend or for the next month? How do I plan my hunting around weather, lunar phases, and rut season?

Obviously the animals were moving last weekend, I know a guy with a nice lease out there that shot a 30" axis buck a dang nice sika and a stud of a LF aoudad within 3 days. He said it was the best weekend hes ever had hunting period on any place. I just wish he had a spot open lol.

Wife and I have a 200 acre LF lease in Harper. Hunted Sat am before the storms hit. Wife shot her largest buck to date. A very nice 8pt. Saw lots of deer. Going back this weekend, It's my turn...... if it only worked that way. Lol

I went to our lease in Junction for a Saturday night hunt. It was crappy, not much was moving. One guy saw 3/4 does and took one. No one else saw much of anything.

Since we are going back this weekend, I am hoping the cooler weather will bring a little more activity.

Guys on my lease say the rut happens around Thanksgiving week. We plan to be out there a couple days before then part of the week. Really cant wait.

Matt

I plan on going back this weekend. Last weekend we went to eat at Coopers Saturday afternoon and all the hunters that were there were also on the same boat, they didn't see much. The weather is supposed to be better with this cold front coming in so good luck to everyone!

Our lease is just outside Junction on 1674 as well. Maybe a mile from the turn onto 1674. Got a lot of good pics, just need one to walk out on saturday.

we are in south Taylor County and we are just not seeing the numbers of deer that I think we should. They are there, just fewer.
I think the hunting is going to be hard for us this year.

The drought was so hard in 2011 around here where we had does abandoning fawns all over. I just think the population was hurt.

Hunted from Sunday evening to Wed morning in Junction and only saw 4 does. None of them would come in and give me a good shot though. Everyone I talked to said the deer are not touching the feeders around there right now.

I hunted Saturday night/sundaymmorning. Nothing Saturday, I was able to take a doe Sunday morning. She came in with a spike and two others.

From Friday to Sunday, there were a total of three does taken. Our lease has a ton of deer on it, we had our highest count for the MLD in a couple years.

There was not a ton of activity though, acorns/plenty of green means they didnt need to move far. I got lucky.

Hunted west of Junction M-Thur. Unfortunately can't shoot wt does on the place (landowners weird rule)& that's all I had a shot at. No good wt/axis bucks comming to feeders which are starting to be quite yellow underneith. Saw some axis does but none came close enough for a shoot with bow. Moved away from feeders & hunted some trails but still nothing much moving with all the green. Will try again at end of month.
