Just wondering what everyone does in the evenings when deer are around you and you are wanting to leave your set after dark?

Why do you care if you're finished for the day?

I always have a "Back Door" to slip out of if deer are around, its just making it past the brush the only hard part. This weekend I walked into my set, through a coffee can of corn around and by the time I was settled in I had 4 deer on the corn.

I usually sit there quite a while in the evening if there are deer around. If that means waiting until its pitch black then so be it. Then I get out as quietly as possible.

You never go back to the same stand twice?
Don't think deer don't learn that's not right seeing/hearing/smelling something climbing out of that box.

I will try to sit it out until they leave, but sometimes I will text the wife to drive the mule to where I am hunting. The deer hear and see the mule all the time and I think they don't associate it with as much danger as a dude walking around.

I've shot deer at the feeder...let them bleed out where they lay and come back that afternoon and shot another.

I had that problem last evening- getting too dark to see and still had a buck in the feeder pen. I just grunted and snorted like a pig and he left.

I hate to let deer see me or associate me with a blind. I will have someone pick my up to run the deer off when I can or I take a coyote call like a Fox Pro and set it out in front of the blind to make a call that will spook the deer away.

Shoot one and they will usually leave.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Set some tannerite targets a hundred yards away or so and shoot one for interference right before you need to leave.

I don't worry about it too much at our place. I purposely spend a lot of time out there so they get used to my scent. I have pics taken with my phone last year about 40 yds. from my feeder of four deer, including a 9 pt., watching me load a doe I shot into the back of my truck. I couldn't get a good pic of the buck as he kept his head down eating most of the time.

I'm hunting out of tri-pods, so no slipping out. I have someone come get me in the golf cart. It scares them off but they don't know I'm there.

I wait until it's pitch black using binos to continue to scout for the next hunt...

I usually stay until I can't see and exit the stand site slowly - most of the time the deer don't even run off. Even if they do, it's inevitable to spook them sometimes so don't let it bother you too much.

A good tip is to be consistent. That goes for a lot of things when hunting (parking your vehicle in the same location consistently is more important than you think), but if you simply enter and exit the stand around the same time and on the same trail the deer will adjust accordingly. Not saying you can't mix it up at times, but deer know how to adapt and can pattern us just as we pattern them.

Get one of those deer decoy suits. When they look your way, just act like you own the place.
BTW, don't dress up like a doe during the rut. It might not end well.

Sometimes I slip my seat cushion out and toss it in the direction of the deer. They have no idea what it is and run off without figuring me out.
