Was a tough year this year at elk camp for goldstein and I. Lets just say first two days were filled with flash floods and golfball hail. We hunted hard with no such luck on the elk. But I did have a mulie tag. We found a 170-180 5x5, I made up my mind he was the one and passed up 15 bucks from a crazy 120" fork to a couple maybe pushing 150. Apparently that damn deer has a gaurding angel. I got on him three different times and wasn't able to connect all blown while drawing from 30-60 yards.. I hunted him for five days. I hadn't seen him for two days when he showed up again, this time with 7 other bucks. Four being 150-180.(looked like the cover photo for mulie mag, 800plus inches of antler skylight) I told myself I was going to hold out for him, I made my stalk and drew, right as I was about to shoot he turn his rear to me and headed uphill, even though I told my self I was going to hold out I just moved to the next deer in the line and released an arrow with out even looking at head gear. I can't say why, maybe decided I shouldn't get greedy, just tried and a little beat down, or just that I needed to capitalize on this opportunity quickly, because I knew with them all being hardhorned now they would soon disperse and disappear until rut. Looking back I really don't know why but I know that I was extremely happy and proud with the result. Shot was true and had a great blood trail and deer went down quick and made it less the 100 yards down hill. Ironically the deer end up being the deer that busted me on all three of the stalks i made on his running buddy. I couldn't help but smile, I ended up taking the one I had cursed mutiple times, which in reality was the more weary of the two, and a hell of a first bow mulie buck We finished up with a brisk clear blue sky 24 degree morning on the mountain, kind of a fitting end to cap off the hard week of fighting through the rain, mud, downed trees, fruitless climbs and hours of hunting the high country. We left the mountain with on last crisp clear bulge, the returned silence was our message that the elk won again this year................. but the mulies didn't I really wanted to get an elk, mulie and speed goat all in one year this year but 2 out of 3 ain't to shabby. . Hope you enjoy the pics The beauty The reality The reason why Special thanks to my friends at TNT outfitters,

Beautiful!! What a great story, has all the reasons hunting is rewarding, if it was easy, it would be so fun.
I wont have a Deer tag, but I have the limited draw for 1st season Elk, so I am stoked since I missed going last year.

Sorry about the elk, we went the week before you and it was solid rain. I can't agree more on the gaitors probably one of the most important pieces of hunting gear. It was the greenest I have ever seen it and the best crop of service berries, rose hips, and choke cherries. When it rains it just shuts the elk down and when bow hunting it is hard to hunt when they will not talk. Congrats on your muley and hope you get that elk next year.

Bobo were you seeing the elk and just couldn't get within range? Just wondering since Ill be up there with TNT outfitters next week for first rifle season. We had a rough week finding the elk. We spent a lot of time looking, hiking, and glassing, but could not find them like usual. The week before, they were covered up in elk, and in them every day. I think the weather is what had us all messed up. We had a ton of rain, a bad hail storm, more rain, some snow, etc. When you are up there in 2 weeks, things will be completely different. Taylor and Rick at TNT will find them. We just got beat by the elk this year.
