My lab is great when retrieving dead birds, but refuses to pick up a wounded bird. What is the best way to get her to retrieve live birds?

Yep, but you can keep trying. The pup might come around.

You can use a clipped pigeon, get his motor runnin and excited about live birds. That might fix it or bandaid it

Google chain gang training for your situation. Sounds like I may need to wait until after work to google that one!

No need to google. Just tie the pup out with other dogs on a chain. Let it watch them do their stuff. It's more for the pros than for a guy with one pup.

Will the dog fetch dead doves? If the only bird you've shot is a dove, then I'd tell you that some dogs hate doves. Their feathers come out easily and some dogs hate it.
Beyond that, yep, force fetch OR tie a pigeons wings together, get the pup frothing/excited, then toss the pigeon. May just need to make it fun.
