I have seen a few pictures of some hogs on here and studying them it looks like some hogs tend to have a longer snout than others. Is this a relation to age of the boar? Or is it a genetic?

Like these Russian boars that some people talk about. I'm not quite sure what a real one looks like and some people seem concerned on what is a real Russian or European boar and what makes it different?

Any experts on here that can answer this?

OK. So are the stripes on the piglets an indication of European genetic by any chance?

The longer the snout, the more pure feral they are. The more domestic that is in them, the more snubby it is.

PLUS....some extra info...domestic pigs (even if turned loose) will gaps between their bottom front teeth, the ferals teeth on the bottom front all touch.

You can have a sow birth a litter & some will have the stripes and some will have spots or be red/brown.

I meant chance as in I was guessing genetics is what caused the stripes and seeking further clarification. Not that I was asking if the stipes were just a rare occurance. But thanks for the help on that.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks!

On MonsterQuest when they do the "Hogzilla" episode, it tells how you can look at a pig skull & tell if its feral or domestic. I check ours around here(when dead of course) & ALL have been feral, even if they dont look it(spots, stripes, ect..)

So this one has some Russian in him you think?
I've got pics of a momma with a bunch of little ones and some are black, some brown, some gray, and some brown with the stripes you were talking about.

Thanks Maggie! Did you see the big guy in my "Athens" post up in the pic section? I think this guy comes out of his gene pool. There seem to be a bunch with the really long snout like this in the area. I can't wait to get one on the smoker!

So is a "Piney Woods Rooter" just a hog with a lot European in him? Most hogs in east Tx seemed to be refered to as this because of there long nose.

Good question. I've never heard that term before, but it sounds like it may have some weight to it. Not sure of other areas out East, but our lease is sure full of the long snout types.
