Couple of bucks from mid-June on a new Lease in Val Verde County. Only had a couple cameras out during early Summer, and they died about a month ago. I've never hunted this country, and I'm used to Wichita County deer. I've also never run cameras prior to August, and was wondering if any of you can give me an estimate on how much more horns these dudes should put on and what they might score when they shed their velvet. The dates on the photos are correct.

Also-age estimates? I always like to hear opinions, especially if you know deer in this part of the country.

If ducks had horns I'd probably be a duck hunter.
I am a horrible deer hunter. Probably the worst. Ever.

I can't help with the estimates as I am still learning, but as long as they have a bulbous end on the tips that means they are still growing. When the tip becomes more sharp or pointed, that's when growth is pretty well stopped.

On most of those pics, it looks like the brows will be a little on the shorter side, but there is lots left to grow on the mains and they may develop several more points on each side depending on how much growth is left. I couldn't even guess on an estimate of score, but he appears to putting on a good amount of bone in the 8 days of pics (it appears this is the same buck).

Age-wise, I would guess him to be in the 4.5 to 5.5 yo range, probably on the higher end of that. He has good calloused knees, a decent belly, well stained hocks, and good greying in the fur around his eyes and mouth. Although I may be off quite a bit as I don't know deer down that part of the state at all....

That buck with the split brow looks fairly mature to me.

Thanks for the input so far... The last two are a different buck from what I can tell, unless his split brow tine fell off between the 16th and 23rd.

Those bucks will continue to grow until the middle of August at least and might grow a bit longer. First buck looks mature.

The buck in the second pic that's under the feeder is a pot-belly old deer. These look pretty consistent in size for Val Verde county deer. I've hunted out there for quite a few years. They'll probably all be 8 pointers.

Take a good buck if you see it and don't wait for the rut. I've learned in West Texas where the deer have millions of acres to run around, that when rut comes, the big boys have plenty of room to chase tail...way away from you. Shoot your deer early when he's still hanging with the boys.

Still have a lot of growing to do. One good mature buck and one younger buck.
