Anyone uses traditional gear? I'm getting the bug. Love to see some pictures of your bows, arrows, set-ups! Advise on makers or such would be appreciated.

When I was in Highschool, a buddy of mine reached up in the rafters of his workshop, and handed me a very old Bear Grizzly recurve. Told me he couldn't hit anything with it, and that I could have it. Been hunting with it ever since. Works great on small game, but the poundage was too low for big game. I converted it to a bow fishing rig. Bowfishing is so fun, I wish I would have done it years ago.

Go to Buffsblackwidow.com and watch the video of him taking a bull elephant with a recurve in April.

I prefer longbows, the Martin Savannah is a great production bow with a very comfortable grip. You need to experiment with grip styles to see what kind of wrist you prefer.

You defiantly need to check out all the great videos on Marty's site. That elephant video is really cool. Not everybody has the means to put an arrow in an elephant.

Dan Quillian 68". Draws 78# at 28". Draws 91# at my draw length. For whatever reason, it stacks 6#/inch over 28". I custom ordered it and he warned me about that before he shipped it to me. I shoot almost full length compressed, tapered white cedar shafts spined at 95#.

Having said all that, it's very comfortable to draw and shoot. The weight stacks nicely, the recoil is not even noticeable, and it's light as a feather. The instant my thumb touches the corner of my mouth I release so I'm not holding any great weight. The only thing I added to the bow was a piece of felt for the riser and a pair of Beaver Balls.

BTW, the quiver is some really, REALLY nice chocolate dyed moose hide with rabbit fur sewed inside at the top.

I shoot hoyt gamemaster II. It's pretty nice for a takedown type but hind sight I would have went with one that takes ILF limbs. Although I have been getting the itch for a wooden longbow.

Thaz right..

Dan Quillian 68" longbow. But he's dead now. Also used to bowfish with an AMF recurve. That's an old pic when I had hair and my Son wasn't 6'5". grin

That is a stout bow! You're in African game territory with that weight.
