I recently found a couple boxes of 6.8 SPC that my nephew has had a hard time finding. He lives in IL and I am looking for the cheapest option for sending it to him. I checked with UPS and shipping it slow boat will cost almost as much as the ammo itself cost. Do I have any other options or will I have to wait until I see him next year?

There are no cheap options. You MUST use FEDEX or UPS. You will probably need to go to a hub office. The "corner" stores will not/cannot take ammo. You must also have this label on the box.

I must have been doing things the wrong way. I've always sent them in the USPS in the flat rate boxes.

I've always sent them in the USPS in the flat rate boxes. It's illegal to send ammo that way. I know people who do it, but it's not worth the risk. I use UPS for all my ammo shipments. F FedEx. You mention ammo or a firearm at FedEx, and they think you are a criminal. They have very strange (and very expensive) rules for shipping either, and employees do not know any of the rules. UPS gets all my business since they are very timely, knowledgeable, and paid for my brothers college when he worked there. Hats off to UPS.

You have been lucky. You could have had the BATF knocking on your door if they had been randomly scanned!

Just so you know that in some parts of IL. it is illegal to ship ammo to unless you are a dealer.

I must have been doing things the wrong way. I've always sent them in the USPS in the flat rate boxes. That's a quick way to meet a postal inspector. Them boys ain't nice when it comes to mailing stuff that shouldn't be in the mail stream.

There are far too many rules and no easy way to view them

There are far too many rules and no easy way to view them shouldn't be to hard to understand when the usps ask's "is there anything hazardous"
