Hi boys,

With the Expo happening this Friday through Sunday, we need your professional advice on where to eat in Waco - the breakfast, lunch and din din choices of the pro's will be appreciated! Thanks in advance from the Texas Crow Patrol...

Not an expert on Waco, but George's has decent burgers and cold beverages.

Viteks, double R burger, Hietmillers, George's but for Big O's, Jasper's BBQ are all good and not chains!

Yeah, Waco is hit and miss.

Breakfast - World Cup Cafe, Cafe Cappacino, Harold Waite Pancake house, Shipley's donuts.

Lunch - Vitek's, Rosati's Pizza, Kitok's, Sam's on the Square

Dinner - Ninfas, 135 Prime (if you want to break the bank... hands down the best food in Waco-town), Barnett's if you want a good pub.

My crew and I have been in Waco for weeks at a time over the last few months doing some video work for TSTC. Heitmillers is pretty good, the rolls are addicting. They have a Rudys BBQ which is always nice. The other places like Georges and Buzzard Billys like others have mentioned are def. worth a visit. Theres another little joint called "Health Camp" thats pretty good, dont let the name fool you, the food is anything but healthy.

Lolita's for breakfast - the wife and I are always in there when we are in town for Baylor games. Their breakfast tacos are pretty dang good.

The wife and I shop and eat in Waco quite a bit, and have done so for 5 or 6 years. Here's what I think:

Best burger, fries, and fried Jalapenos, and a darn good steak are at Georges.

Also a top level burger at Health Camp

Best Mexican - maybe Chuy's and maybe the Mexican place where Franklin goes under Valley Mills. Can't remember the darn name, but the food is very good.

Best steak at any cost - Diamondback's, right next to Ninfas in downtown Waco. The wife and I had a terrific steak and overall meal there recently. The steak was as good as anything I've gotten in Houston over the years. Bad news was that just the meat (for just me) was $62. Great steak. Meal cost a ton of money, probably around $200, including the red wine. I can get a good steak at George's for way less money.

Good Sushi - the Asian restaurant at the mall (close to or next to Red Lobster).

Good BBQ - honestly, I haven't had good BBQ in Waco. Best I can find is just Ok.

Heitmillers is Ok, but nothing special. Buzzard Billy's is Ok, but nothing special.

Ninfa's - I haven't eaten in a Ninfa's in many years. When Mama Ninfa sold the chain the food went downhill fast. That isn't the good stuff.

Rudy's is just chain BBQ. Ain't bad, but surely there's better to be had.

The Mexican restraunt where Franklin crosses Valley Mills is La Fiesta, and it is pretty good. The Asian place next to Red Lobster by the mall is Fiji's. My daughter loves it, and the food is good. Best steak in Waco is Diamondback's (it might not be on the menu but ask if they can do a seafood-stuffed ribeye, man that is good there), it's right across Franklin from the convention center between Ninfa's (also good) and Cricket's (good for beer and pub grub). Viteck's BBQ just won best college grub with their gutpack, so if you feel like contributing to your own demise, but with a smile on your face, knock yourself out. Lots of REALLY good Czeck bakeries for breakfast stuff just up I-35 in West. They got slap-your-mamma good kolaches and pastries and such at any of them. There are several and while we all have our favorite, you really can't go wrong with any of them. Cupp's is an old standard for a good burger, right off I-35 behind Burger King. Not a fan of Heitmiller's even though it's a local standard. Buzzard Billy's is good for a cold beer and a good time, they have good boiled shrimp and crawfish.

Grew up around Waco. It looks like all of the good places have been mentioned. I wouldnt eat at George's but I would drink their beer in a Big O. Vitek's Gutpack is a must for lunch but I warn you, you will need to find a restroom shortly afterwards. Mexican is hit or miss all over town with Chuy's prolly being my favorite. The only good thing at Ninfa's is the Ninfarita. If you are looking for a great sandwich, try Schmaltz's. They have a location really close to the convention center downtown. Health Camp is a great burger joint and I like Rudy's although there are a lot better places to eat BBQ around the state.
Do yourself a favor and make the little 20 min run north to West and get kolaches for breakfast. Like mentioned, you cant go wrong with any of them although if you go into town there are a couple of places that are better than the 2 bakeries on the interstate.

George's for chicken fried steak
Vitek for BBQ
Both are around 18th and the interstate

Cantina Texas in Hewitt is really awesome
on Hewitt drive ,past WalMart in shopping center on the right

Buzzard Billy's used to be really good, till I got warm beer and cold Estoufe, should have been the other way around

I'll be at George' Saturdays after the Expo
