your missing the point of this completely.

its not about mounting a set of sheds and acting like you killed it.

its simply preserving and displaying an exceptional set of antlers from your property in another manner.

well said!...

I don't see why not. They sell the Mountain Mikes euro mount kit at Academy.

stxranchman, I've never seen the connectors used on the antlers you posted. Pretty cool.

Depends on the size of deer but most defiantly either do a horn mount or shoulder mount.

I'm talking about something 170+ or biggest deer you've ever seen.

I wouldn't do a shoulder mount personally but I don't see anything wrong with it. Those mounts stxranchman has look great. Could be a cool mount especially if you end up getting him one year

Ya most definitely. I've done a shoulder on a really nice 10 (high 170's) that was never shot on our old place and I think he died. No one laid claim to him and the horns were bleached out pretty good. so it was pretty obvious no one ever took him, but it was a beautiful buck and it showed the progression of the ranch's management. I thought of it as a look at what we started with and where we are today.

The connectors can be had from Mckenzies taxi supply or other taxi supply stores.

I did have a friend who missed a really big 6x6 typical on his ranch in the late 90's. We really got lucky that spring we found both his sheds with another 5 point side laying in a pile about 3/4 mile from where he had missed him that fall. The sheds were mounted on a full sneak shoulder mount that year. He never did see that buck again. He grossed in the mid 170's and would have netted right at 170 depending on his spread. Mount was done to remind him of what could have been.

I buy them direct from the guys who make them. Much better pricing.

Yes, they resembled those and were bleached out like those are. I stained them with linseed oil and a taxi mounted them on a horn mount only. Horns I had mounted would score about 190 or so.

We have a couple bucks in the lodge that are sheds. I see nothing wrong with it. could make good conversational pieces.

I could see shoulder mounting sheds to put at a lodge or camphouse but, I wouldn't personally do a shoulder mount with sheds and put them in my home.

I passed on a 157" typical 11 with 3 kickers in 1998, thinking he was only 5.5 and wanted to see what he would become at 6.5. Was walking the property that spring after I passed on him, and found his skeleton in a dry creek bed. Knowing i could have killed him, I took his horns and used a cull buck cape I had in the freezer and got him mounted.

Think I would do the shed connector thing. Looks pretty cool.. I don't have the extra coin to shoulder mount a deer I didn't shoot. If money wasn't an option and I had a ranch house? Heck yeah.

My answer is no. But I do display them in my hunting room with some of my bigger sheds.

If I had a hunting ranch, big lodge or something like that.....I would think about it.

I found a 148" (18" spread credit) this year fresh sheds. My biggest set to date but will not mount them. I like leaving them as single sheds.

I found a complete set of sheds from my son's first buck that he killed last year. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate them into habitat on the shoulder mount, but haven't come up with any good ideas yet.

But, like jorge said about showing how far you've came in your management practices and hanging them at the lease would be kinda cool. I doubt many people would be willing to donate their 170" bucks for the camp house wall, maybe though. So shed antlers or found skulls would be perfect.

I don't know if you were asking me or simple saying "why not mount them" but I typed that out on my phone already. Ha ha

:Also, it doesn't matter to me if someone does and I wouldn't knock them if they did. I just wouldn't do it.

our neighbor was catching deer for a dmp pen and shot a deer with the net that ended up scoring 178. well the excitment of the chase was too much for the buck and he had a heart attack and died.

they did mount the buck and hung it on the wall of the camphouse, kinda as an example of what kind of caliber of deer the property is capable of producing
