The Robert Taylor buck from Grayson County got its 60 day score a few days ago.

After some corrections/adjustments were made, it has a Pope & Young non-typical score of 260 gross and 254 4/8 inches net. If that score holds up after future P&Y panel scoring, it could be the new archery state record non-typical.

At that score, it's the fourth largest free-ranging non-typical ever recorded in Texas and potentially one of the "Top 10" non-typical bowkills of all time.

I dont either, but i hate that mount. Not sure why but think its ugly but sure diffrent.

cactus buck..never shed antlers, just grow em out every year. they could probably count how many years he has piled up there.

Who scored this 260inch buck..... sucker looks like he shouldnt even bust 200.... not a very impressive deer....is this the one that was up the other day with a game came pic at the top of the thread?

i disagree. jmo, but i dont see anything growing that out every year. did ya find a post with a shed or something? if not, how do you know it's not a cactus buck? i never heard a cactus buck called a stag. stag is usually a red deer, or a pig thats been castrated after sexual maturity.

I usually shoot atleast two cactus/stag bucks a year...neither of those above are cactus bucks. They have fully hardened antlers meaning the produced enough testostrone to harden..if they harden they shed!!! cactus/stags dont produce enough testostone to fully harden there for they never harden thus never shed. Stags can occur either from castration, genital deformation, or diet.

Cactus bucks generally never get hard horned, hence they continue to grow more junky looking points off each year. Lot of the bucks in the link you posted are not cactus bucks but more antler or pedicle damage growths. Also antler infection causes a lot of abnormalties in growth from the infection.

a stag buck will not drop its antlers from year to year, which i think is what you are calling a cactus buck. i know of a few bucks similar to this that drop antlers every year and have seen velvet picks of them, but never had personal experience with a shed from one.
