Just purchased some new kind of protein from Colorado Feed in Columbus. Its a Purina brand, dont remember the actual name of it, but it was 20% for 10.75/#50 bag.

They sell Leopold Grain corn in #50 bags for 9.75.

i have been paying 11.60 a fifty for 20%

Is there any suggestions for food plots in this "DRY" conditions, in Central Texas.
Is there an biologist out there that could provide some recommendations?

Do we know of places like the National Wild Turkey Federation where you can get "bulk" seed at a reduced price?

This is what we are considering to plant as of now, depending on the costs:

Fall: August, before the freeze: we are looking to putting in turnips, Buck Forage Oats, cow pees, arrow leaf clover and ???

Spring: April, after the freeze: Blue Stem, Bermuda, Red-top Cane, Milo, Chufa, cow pees, soybeans ???

I had been using Hermann Feed in Lampasas for years (+/- 20) but they closed about a month ago ... I had some free time while doing some business around Burnet, so when I was done, hit other feed stores in the area. I ended up at Brown Feed off the SE corner of the square in Lampasas (next to where Hermann feed was) ... talked a bit to the owner, Foot Brown, and his current price as of yesterday (7/17/2013) was $8.45 for a 50# bag. When asked, he stated it was actually pretty clean too. This was by far the cheapest I have seen in the past several years.

I posted some of this info in another thread, but it is relevant to this one:

I know it is a ways away for some, but there is a fellow southwest of Waco (Speegleville) who is selling "field corn" in 51# paper bags at $300 a pallet (40 bags; $7.50 a bag.) He bags 51# just to be sure that he is not shorting the customer! I know that he delivers big orders on his rig for as little as $350 a pallet--but I don't know exactly how far away he is willing to deliver. I have bought pallets from him the last couple of years and the corn works just as well in my feeders as it does in corn-burning stoves! He started taking his corn in last week and I expect he will be back at it next week after the ground dries from recent rains. He has about 1700 acres yet to harvest--and although he has a lot of customers, he should have plenty of corn for imminent orders.
