I am taking my CHL class this Saturday.

I have a full size px4 9mm that I really like but sometime in the next few months
I am going to purchase a CCW to use.

I don't want another px4 in subcompact just because I want to mix it up.

what have y'all had or recently bought that you really like?
I'm thinking maybe an XDS, sig (I think 238?), HK(don't know much about them), Remington r1 1911, and my buddy has a Kahr 9 I've shot but I don't like it enough to buy I don't think.

also- what caliber? originally I was thinking 9 but if all the ammo is going to be like this I Think 380 or 45 might be better?

Any input appreciated. I'm obviously not a gun pro but that's why I'm asking!

caliber you just have to decide for yourself what you want.

I carry a Kahr 9, but I am going to get a XDS pretty soon, just trying to find one at a good price. I really want to trade my Kahr for one plus some cash.

Ever thought about a wheel? .38 spl +p in an alloy snubby is almost as light as it is reliable.

I went the wheel route with a S&W 638 Airweight .38spl+P with crimson trace laser. It's light (15.1 Oz empty), easily fits in a front jeans pocket and 100% reliable.

Think about this for a minute:

The controls between the Full size and Sub-Compact are the same
- Same safety
- Same mag release
The magazines from the full size can be used in the SC
Grips are the same though just a little shorter on the SC
Practicing with the FS should be just like the SC except for the shorter sights

If you decide to sell your full size, I'm looking to buy one to go with my SC that I already have. I use the SC as a CCW and use the Comp-Tac minotaur with a FS mold that I cut down a little over an inch.

I couldn't recommend the glock 26/27 highly enough. I also like the S&W m&p sub compact in 9mm. I also like the m&p shield for pocket carry, I'm looking to pick one up myself before summer hits. There's soo many choices out there, oh and the sig 938's are pretty sweet too.

If you like the XDS but have bigger hands I recommend the Glock 36. One round higher capacity, and more grip.

Glock 36. A single stack .45,..no safety to worry about. Easy to Carry, draw, aim and shoot,..if needed.

I carry one of two different guns depending on what clothes I'm wearing. A Beretta Nano or a Glock 19. I have a Crossbreed Supertuck for both of them. As much as I hate to admit it, Glocks are the Remington 870 of the pistol world. They're not pretty, but they're stone cold reliable. I carry it because it is safe, reliable, and has no manual safety for me to worry about operating in the heat of the moment. I chose 9mm because its cheap to practice with. The best defensive pistol is the one you can shoot effectively, and that comes with lots of practice. Also, I personally place more emphasis on capacity.

my vote would be for the xds 45. The 40 and 9mm will be out very soon.

Glock 26/27 or M&P compact.

The caliber is a toss up. Get what you want. A handgun is a defensive weapon and no matter what anyone says none are going to be "one shot show stoppers". Unless you get lucky and hit the CNS.

Ever consider 10mm?

They also announced it the SHOT show... 9mm sooner and the .40 later if I recall correctly!

I carry a sig 239. I'm one of those crazy people that like having a hammer on my carry gun.

Go handle as many as you can. Make a short list of what YOU like. Then, go rent those guns to see which YOU like most.

People always suggest what they like. I saw several Glock suggestions. I owned a G27, but sold it for my XDsc. Not everyone would agree with that.

I will suggest taking the test with your fullsized PX4 though.
