I was finally successful drawing this hunt. Has anyone else hunted here? I'm looking for information on preferred compartments, hunting techniques, etc. My hunt is the last weekend of January. I grew up in the Panhandle and know the weather will be unpredictable. Anyone have experience with this hunt/location? I've been to the park hundreds of times, have thrown away many pairs of red dirt stained underwear from playing in the creeks there. I know the terrain will be daunting. Appreciate any tips.

PM Blank on this board. Great guy out of Idaho who drew last year. He and his hunting buddy can fill you in on how the hunt was run last year and what to expect.
And give me a ring before you head down. If I'm at the ranch that weekened, offer still stands for a cup o Joe.
To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.www.NewHopeEquine.com - Health and Healing through Horses.

Never hunted Palo Duro but hunted Caprock a few years ago. Hunted harder than I ever have and came home empty handed. Saw a monster mulie at 20 yards that I still dream about. Also attempted to kill a hog with a rock on the side of a cliff. Woulda been successful if I would not have hit it in the neck. Was a great hunt and the coldest I have ever been. Hunt was in early January. I imagine the hunting is similar. Glass, glass, glass and be prepared to shoot far.

I have family friends that have leases or own land on Palo Duro canyon. Definitely a bunch of big Aoudad there. I have ran across a few while hunting WTs. They are like ghosts - they just appear and disappear into the brush and they are crazy quiet. When I have ran into them, it has just been happenstance that I walked up on them within 25-50 yards before we noticed each other. If you plan to find a high spot and watch, take some good glass!
Good luck!

Can't help with your questions but just thought I'd share what can come out of the Canyon. This old beast was taken on the Turkey Creek Ranch between Silverton and Claude. He was 32 7/8 on one side and 32 3/4 on the other with 13 7/8 bases. Only had one eye left and battle scarred all to heck. Good luck.

The 1st time I drew it I took a sheep. The 2nd trip I had I passed on a shot and never had another one. Love hunting that country. Be patient and glass a lot, they can turn up anywhere.
