Thanks. We're quite proud of him. My father in law has visiting researchers and academic people from all over the world that always want to come out and see what a real Texas Longhorn looks like. We keep them really as a novelty. Tough as nails. Although they can be quite intimidating, none of the animals are mean at all.

I had the chance to approach one once, at a friends farm in souther oklahoma. He said the same thing, they look intimidating but are actually pretty tame. Still couldnt make myself get too close to him. Definitely majestic.

You wouldn't believe how agile they are with them big things. They can go zipping thru the woods way faster than I can. Their horns are actually quite sensitive and they maintain amazing control over them. However, don't be near then if they have a fly on their butt. When they go to swing their head around to swat that fly, they'll clear the kitchen table!

I took this pic few years ago. This bull was intimidating but wanted nothing but attention & showed off for a few shots. He was a real sweety but it was ninja like evasive maneuvers when he had an itch to scratch wow

Thats a great way to put it! He's a beautiful bull. His horns are completely different than that of a steer. People don't realize when their near longhorns that they're not mean (at least not mine), but you've got to watch those horns and their "scorcted earth" horn radius when they swing that big head around. Dumb as a football bat, and will turn your truck over with those things. I bet your's loves to have that "dangely down skin stuff" under his neck scratched.
I've been thinking about selling mine. What do you think I could get for 'em?

he wasn't mine but i had permission to go photograph him. he was a ham. we know gentleman up the road that has a big herd of them. im going to see when would be a good day to go photograph them.

up in the mountain, they are running longhorns in with the herds due to them actually killing off bear that try to attack. the horns do make their mark when it's meant.

I can believe it. I had a cow that was perfectly docile, right up until her calf was born. For a couple of weeks, she wouldn't let us anywhere near the calf. She'd throw her head and hoof up the dirt into a cloud if we got anywhere near. Eventually, when the calf got a little older, everything calmed down. Longhorns are great, protective moms. My white cow above was very docile and trusting with us when she had her calf. She's always a sweet cow. However, I'd never question a longhorn mom if she said stay away...a real force to be reckoned with.

BTW, MBAVO's beautiful cows (first pictures in the thread) are very much more historically correct specimens of the breed. Lean with horns not quite as long and bulky. Just tough as nails cattle that don't need us to survive.
