I just got the okay from the old lady that I could go to Randolph County Illinois with my best friend for a 5 day deer hunt. His family owns some land up there and they grow some freaking studs, but on to the topic.

This will be my 3rd time to go up there to hunt and it never fails, it's bawls freezing cold. I'm going during bow only season which I'm pumped about, (they can only use shotguns and muzzies for about 7 days for the whole hunting season) but the last 2 times i've gone, I freeze my a$$ off. Then, I layer put on enough layers to stay warm, I feel like the Michelin Man and I can't draw.

Is there a bibs/jacket combo out there that won't break me, but is warm, quiet, and flexible?

Any help or feedback is appreciated.

You sound like me 10 years ago....I finally went to a ski shop and bought a pair of mid weight and polar weight thermals, both top and bottom....In 32 degree weather I wear the mid weight with a fleece top and bottoms and say nice and toasty....Best 50 bucks i ever spent..In "still" hunted in 15 degree weather 2 years ago with my polar weight on and a jacket and same result...All that layering is for the birds now...

The electric jacket is pretty cool most the time I just wear the liner, i also use their heavy weight base layer. But the bibs are real warm and it has to be under 34 for me to wear them.

But a good down 800fill jacket is hard to beat. LLbean and Kuiu are introducing a waterproof down.

Not to mention down jackets are very packable meaning stuff in a small bag

More or less most the time I wear heavy weight base layer normal pants, base layer tops and soft shell jacket... Start getting cold I pull out the down puffer or my electric jacket.

Biggest things that will keep you warm are keeping your feet, hands and face warm most of all

Arctic Shield stuff is amazing. Not very thick and amazingly warm. It's good for sitting or riding, but if you're walking, or you get into a box blind, you'll need to start pulling it off.

For bow hunting up north, I would think it would be perfect. I honestly don't wear mine much around here. It's just too warm.

Cabelas Brand bib overalls are great. I wear them fishig in the winter time so I can keep upper body mobility. I also have two sets of their microfleece pants and shirts, with a microfleece pullover. With some good long johns, the microfleece layers, the pullover, then the bibs, I have never needed more. I have used this combo in weather from blowing 9 degree temps at 10,000ft in New Mexico, to fishing in weather so cold we had to dip the rods in the water because the line was freezing to the eyes.

Kuiu just released its special water resistance/proof down jacket and pants.

Durablity as a Straight outer peice, might be questionable but the pants has full length zippers so easy to put on, on stand. Hard to beat down especially since this version down doesn't get water logged

The under armour cold gear jackets are less bulky but will keep you warm. I have a guide gear bibs i wear quite a bit and never get cold. Also gander mountain has a pant/jacket GSX brand that's very similar to under armour and very warm!
