Just moved back to North Texas (Frisco) and was hoping for a good club to join to train my lab. I have Googled a few but thought that this would be the best plact to ask. Don't think I will make any hunts this year but thought I might train and get out and scout in the Mudbuddy. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

There's Big D hunt club. Get ahold of Patti Benton and she could help you.

What exactly is a Dog Training Club?

Is this a bunch of people who know how to train a dog, and decide to get together to do it? Or, is this a bunch of people who have dogs they want to train (and might have some knowledge of how to do it), but they bring in someone from the outside to help with the training?

Sorry for my ignorance. Hopefully my display name explains why.

I am not able to make this Sunday, but for future reference, can people come out (even just to watch) if they (like me) have no idea how to train a dog to hunt, but just want to learn?

@NewTexan...to answer your question, my experience has been that clubs usually have a few professional trainers/dog breeders in them and the rest are guys like myself who just train their dog to hunt or compete in field trial hunt tests. I am an amateur dog trainer at best but I trained my dog by going to a club and picking the brains of people there. All are willing to help and have bent over backwards to ensure that I was learning as well as my dog. Also, I have a few books and DVDs that helped. PM me and I will be glad to talk...

Hey all thanks for the help. I'll keep an eye out on the forum for future meetings so I can come out and check it out. Seems like it would be pretty helpful.

PM sent TXMADE.
