thought I would try a new caliber for hunting this year and decided on the 243. I have not sighted it in yet just curious where I need to put it at 100 to be good out to 300. Most of my shots are going to be under 150 but the chance of a 300 or better are a possibility. As I understand the 243 is pretty flat shooting.

What kind of ammo are you going to be using?

probably the cheapo blue box federal. seems to work as well as most at half the cost and every gun I have used it in I have had pretty good results.

There are several variables that can affect the bullets path. Weight of bullet, velocity, the offset between rifle bore and scope. In general terms, if you set 2" high at 100, you will be about 6" low at 300. You are not far from Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds, between Slidell and Decatur. They have a rifle range out to 200 yards, shooting at 200 will give you a better idea.

www.jdmballistics.com/trajectoryBullet cal, weight, ballistic coefficient, muzzle velocity Enter what ever other data applies to your rifle system and it will produce your trajectory. You can copy from the jdm chart and paste it to an excel file. Print. Take to the field and verify, if it is correct (jdm almost always is) you are done. 300 is a chip shot for a .243, so don't sweat it.

I can afford any ammo, but I have had pretty good luck out of this in other guns. It has killed just as good as any other. Once I get everything dialed in to where I like it, it will probably get some partitions and call it a day.
