My brother just picked up the Horton Bone Collector crossbow at Bass Pro for $499 I think. Shot pretty good. I hear 10pt crossbows are pretty decent as well.

I got a Tenpoint Titan Extreme package for 549.99. I did quite a bit of research and found this was the best value for the money. over 300 ft per second, lighter than average, not as wide as most and very few reported issues.

Package came with quiver, 3 bolts and a scope. Love the way it shoots and it is made in the USA.

I'm thankful for the things i have and all the things i don't

Thank you both for the advise. Where did you purchase the Ten Point Titan package at?

I would go to cabelas or bass pro and try few out. Then after seeing the differences, then you will have an easier time finding what you are looking for.
But I scored a wicked ridge invader made by ten point for $275 the other day and couldn't be happier!!! Its a damn fine setup.

Best of luck.

That is about the worst advice I have seen on this forum in awhile. Bass Pro or Cabelas are the worst places you can buy a bow or crossbow in the state. Find a local pro shop and have it done right the first time.

A friend told me about Cinnamon Creek Archery near Fort Worth. Anyone know anything about them?

You can try more crossbows at Cabelas or Bass Pro than any other places I know of. Parker, Excaliber, Horton, Ten Point, Baret, PSE... Not many proshops offer the diversity of bows and allow you to pick the ones you like and try them on their range.

I could not be happier with the Parker Tornado package I have, small, light weight. shoots to the advertised 330fps and hitting the 2 inch black dots on my target out to 60 and 70 yards is no problem. Scope was mounted correctly and have not had to do any adjustments to it or the bow, and this weekend will be my third season with it.

Yeah like the guy on Archery talk they can also sell you Compound Bow arrows that will explode after the second shot too. Fact is most of them don't know what they are selling so if you are not familiar with what your buying, don't trust them to be. I will buy hunting supplies and guns from Cabelas and BassPro, but they probably account for more would be archers giving up the sport than anyone becuase a guy gets his new stringed toy home and never can get it to shot good. They decide it is them, when it is not really theam at all it is the fact that they got shafted by the tech at the store who didn't know what he was doing.

I got my Horton at Gander Mountain in Tyler last year and the bow pro there took the time to go in the range with me with several crossbows and we shot each one several times. To me it's the best way to see which one is for you. You get to feel the trigger pull etc. I love my Horton, it is very accurate and quiet.

I have a 2012 PSE Reaper. $399- xbow, quiver, 4 bolts, rope cocking device, and scope.
only had it a month now and it has dropped 3 hogs and yote already.
only bad thing i will say about it is that it is pretty loud.

I bought a Barnett Jackal and it's great. 315fps. Amazing groups out of the box.

Basically ready to kill as soon as you buy it. I read reviews and bought it off eBay. With a xbow--if not spending too much money and buying entry-level--I don't think it's as big of a deal to go to a local shop like it would be for an actual bow. Just my $.02.

Horton Vision 175. Balances great with reverse draw limbs and pretty quiet to boot. Picked it up as a pkg deal, great scope, bolts and cocking rope all for $499. No deer yet but a pesky squirrel has met his maker a bit prematurely

The best advice given....Call Dave @ Wyverns Creations, I've been doing business with him for over a year. He will not steer you wrong and he has good prices!....and backs up what he sells.
Check him out on the web, he deals ONLY with Xbows and accessories! Great Guy and a world of knowledge on the subject!

Wicked Ridge Raider CLS might not be the absolute best out there, but one that will work for you for several years.

Perfect for your needs.

So you're welcome!

Except for the fact that Horton is out of business and there are hardly any replacement parts to be found.
