they are almost gone in Central Texas, only see a few nowadays....guess the "varmint hunters" have managed to do their best to make them extinct...a great symbol of Texas....let them repoplulate if you care for wildlife in Texas.

Got a ton of them on our place in Burnet County. Only time we shoot em is when I'm taking someone out who has never hunted before and start them off small. Coons and rabbits beware.

We have alot around the Waco McGregor area. We see them by the dozens everytime we go on a predator hunt. Nobody in our group shoots at them we just watch em.

Seen a few jacks over here in Frisco...Not many fields left though. Stinkin houses and pavement are taken up every bit of habital space left. Now, out West.....tons. I too would love to see a greyhound catch a jack....or yote....those things are fast.

I see a big group of them just about every late night trip between Forestburg and Slidell. Used to see quite a few on my place south of Slidell, but lately even cottontails are a rare sight. Skunks and yotes though, two show up for every one i kill.

You couldn't be farther from the truth. Using central Texas as your area is pretty vague. Maybe there gone from your place but here in evant and where I hunt in Florence we have 100s if not 1000s. It nothing to see 20-30 every time out.

I am with Aboud on this. We are near San Angelo and the population goes through in waves. We had a few years that you couldn't find one, and a few years that you couldn't miss one. I can assure you, the population decrease was not due to hunting. If anything, varmint hunting would help.

Good luck finding a place to run your dog. Wish I could help
